As First Year Of Health Insurance Mandate Nears, Prices Could Shock Connecticut Buyers
Hartford Courant ^

Thousands of Connecticut residents will have a shock this summer when they see the prices for 2014 medical coverage that they’re counting on buying through the newly formed state health insurance exchange.

You might have thought that even though prices are expected to rise sharply across the nation in the state exchanges — which are part of health care reform — Connecticut buyers would get off easy. After all, this state already has many of the coverage mandates driving up rates elsewhere.

Wrong.

driving prices sky high, while cutting the availability of the care itself and then mandate everyone get insurance is designed to destroy the system and peoples faith in it.

I have a close family member who is a Lib/Democrat zealot. He is now looking at health insurance prices (he is self-insured) and is going crazy over the price increases. But, being the good liberal that he is, he just knows that the reason prices are going up is because somehow Boehner and the Republican House are conspiring with insurance companies to “keep rates high” to generate profit. He makes comments like “insurance should be free” and “insurance companies should not be allowed to profit from healthcare.” There are a lot of people out there who think like him and its scary. If it was up to a large chunk of the uninformed Libs, we would nationalize our entire healthcare and insurance system and tax “the rich” to pay for it at 80% or even 100%. They really believe this.

Government mandates the citizen purchases a product or suffer their wrath.

Cost of mandated product skyrockets because it's mandated.

Morons who are ignorant of history are shocked!

Why do we get out of bed anymore?

He makes comments like “insurance should be free” and “insurance companies should not be allowed to profit from healthcare.”

Ask him if he really believes this, why doesn't he start a non-profit (or free) insurance company and provide insurance for others? Or, at least, ask him how many people that he has provided insurance for?

I tell my students that when I see a conservative or a capitalist come up with an idea that they REALLY believe in, they work night and day to bring that idea to fruition. I show them examples like the guy on Stossel's show a couple of weeks ago who wanted to start a Charter School in New Orleans. He worked for weeks determining what the requirements were. Then he walked the streets looking for students. Once he had enough commitments, he worked for weeks locating a place to work from and hiring staff. Now, he works night and day keeping the place running.

On the other hand, when a liberal or socialist has an idea they REALLY believe in, they call their representative and try to have a law made or changed. They might even go somewhere and hold a sign for an hour or two. Then, they crawl up on their couch and go to sleep.

If he doesn’t want to pay premiums, he can look forward to paying the high taxes rates necessary to sustain single payer.

Which isn’t really free either - the only difference being you’ll pay Uncle Sam to look after your health as opposed to a private insurance company.

But remember in the future when you get that coveted Medicare card, none of it is free even if you never see a bill when you leave the hospital.

Rush spent an extended amount of time on this last week. Such talk is indeed becoming more prevalent. Should not surprise anyone though. In the places where wacko Libs go to chatter at one another they've been calling for healthcare, education and child care to be designated "No Profit Zones" for quite some time now.

Not just on the Left.

The prevailing attitude in America is adequate nutrition, housing, education, Internet access and health care are all human rights.

And if they are in fact entitlements of human nature, then no one can be charged to have access to them. This is what is coming in the future, step by step.

America is being irrevocably changed.

Yep. At least 80% of Obama voters believe these fairy tales. They shut down all cognitive thinking when you hit them with facts about why government run health care will be a disaster. It’s hard to see the Republic recovering from this death spiral.

Correct - this is why everyone needs to get themselves in the best possible physical shape possible since the entire system is going to implode.

F every liberal communist!

Excellent point! The only Canadians I've met who did not suffer daily angst over their health care system were a couple of guys from Quebec who were absolute health food and workout fanatics.

-----------

It's even worse than that because it's not just higher taxes. It's a lower standard living as government sucks in a massive amount of resources out of the private sector. In the end we will get lower quality health care for a higher cost. The only winners will be the government and the connected businesses who both will be taking a cut of the action.

Sticker Shock = Howls of outrage = Demands to “do something” = the “public option” = Single Payer.

All according to plan.

You forgot a step:

Sticker Shock = Howls of outrage = Republicans get blamed, lose The House in 2014 = Demands to “do something” = the “public option” = Single Payer.

And it won't even matter that the republicans were literally locked out of the sausage making, and not allowed to see what was in the sausage until it was "deemed" passed. If there's one thing republicans, other than mitt wrongney, are not guilty of, it's obamacare.

Wonder if Woodward will remind the eaters and looters that obamacare was passed by dems.

I think by the end of this year Bob will be living in a trailer park in Florida wondering what happened to his career.

Since the passage of obamacare i have made it a mission to be in the best shape possible.

I’m down 35lbs and feel and look great. The system is going to collapse and people better be ready physically, emotionally, financially, etc.
