This Son of the Motor City is heartbroken. It hurts when I see the city of my birth and first 17 years ground into the dirt. It was a great place to grow up in the 40s and 50s. Not one of my old high school classmates lives in the city; most have moved to Livonia or downriver. Even my cousin and his wife, who had once been members of the “Save Detroit Coalition” have pulled up stakes and moved to Grosse Pointe, even though they both still work downtown. RIP, Motown.
There are plenty of cities like Pittsburgh, Austin, and Seattle that are Democrat and pro-Unioin but not Third world hell pits like Detroit. There must be some other factor involved. Now what could be the underlying difference between Pittsburgh and Detroit?
Actually this would appear to be the perfect job for Mitt Romney. Can’t imagine in a million years though why he would want it.

Why haven’t Democrats destroyed Burlington VT, Portland OR, or Portland, ME? Why haven’t SOCIALISTS destroyed Windsor, ON, right across the river from Detroit?
What’s so special about Detroit that Democrats have had the magic power to destroy it?
Hell, they should dis-incorporate Detroit, break it up into small towns then bulldoze the empty spaces between them and sow ‘em with grass seed.

The Democrats and liberals aren’t as far along in destroying Pittsburgh as they are in destroying Detroit. The Democrat goals are the same everywhere. Sometimes it just takes them longer.
Detroit needs to go to bankruptcy liquidation.

That’s about right. Now that the people who are willing to work and pay taxes have left they have their own Somalia.
It’s likely these boiling pots are why the DHS is arming up with lots of armor and bullets. Something is going to blow out soon.
In Pittsburgh the dirty little secret is that our black population is MUCH, MUCH SMALLER than the other cities commonly mentioned as hellholes. Even today 25% seems to be a fairly generous estimate. The iron grip that the unions had over employment in the steel industry just made it much more attractive to head to Chicago or Detroit if you were fleeing Jim Crow. Much more of the gainfully employed, socially stable white population has stayed within city limits as a result. Even though the city is Democrat our percentage of socially conservative practicing Catholics remains high.
However I see a distressingly fast growth in our “white trash” population that is suffering from all the same breakdowns that began afflicting the African-American community 4 or 5 decades ago.
Liberals have managed to wreck the city school system, which has accelerated white flight in recent years.
These cities only became controlled by liberal Democrats recently. They don’t have the long history of socialist programs and violence that Detroit has. The Democrat goals are the same as for Detroit. They just need more time.
Those who could get out, did. It was going downhill since Cavanagh in the 60's. Detroit in 1950 was the 5th largest city in the country.
