District suspends 'race and social justice' class after complaint

SEATTLE -- A curriculum controversy has a Seattle school teacher and some of his students speaking out about how issues of race should be taught.

Center School teacher Jon Greenberg's "race and social justice" curriculum was suspended recently after a student's parents complained about the material.

Now many of Greenberg's other students are teaming up to help their embattled teacher.

"He looked so sad that he couldn't talk about what he loves to teach," said student Yasab Pfister.

The district began investigating the class after a parent complained that her child felt intimidated by the material. The district agreed with the parent and released a statement addressing the class.

"These are important conversations for our students and staff. But we don't want to put any child into a situation where he or she feels so intimidated by the manner in which these issues are taught that the course is no longer effective," the statement reads.

Greenberg denied he singled out any students and said he has never received negative feedback about the class. After the decision, he emailed current and former students to let them know what happened and encourage them to help his cause.

The story never provides any specific details about what was being taught and what part of it brought the complaints. One could guess, but the story would probably rate an F in a real journalism class.

“He looked so sad that he couldn’t talk about what he loves to teach,” said student Yasab Pfister.”

Oh really. So what does he love to teach? No specifics.

He looked so sad

And that, ladies and gentleman, is what passes for logic, reason, and debate in today's academia.

Yasib Pfister should be asking the college for a refund.

My thoughts as well, Will.
The story is a bunch of words that say nothing but how people are feeling . . . about what we don’t know.

So the problem is not that “social justice” was being taught, but that the effectiveness of the course was hampered by a student feeling intimidated.

Centralized control of curriculum is fatal to high quality education.

“Public schools” need to be abolished and replaced with a diverse, non-monopolistic market.

The US Dept of Ed needs to be abolished as well, it is not a federal power. The NEA and AFT also are control points that should be abolished.

State taxes to fund education should be attached to the child. Although any tax monies inevitably distort markets.

How about “diversity” for a change? My child is educated in a school sharing my values, and the left-wing subversives’ children are educated in a school with those values, ie: marxism, racism, “social justice” and the rest of their anti-American anti-western civilization bs. Don’t force your commie claptrap on me.

“He looked so sad that he couldn’t talk about what he loves to teach,” said student Yasab Pfister.

Teachers are not there to to talk about what they love.....
They are they to educate children to the point where they can survive as adults by have knowledge and skills to earn a living and be a productive member of society..

I find it ironic that a class on social justice was thwarted by a student who felt intimidated. You can’t make this stuff up kids.

Although this news story doesn’t say exactly what the teacher was telling his students, you can be rest assured any class with the words “social justice” in the title will have a decidedly leftist bent to it. As most conservatives now know, any person who prates about “social justice” will undoubtedly blame capitalism and America for all the troubles of the world.
