The NRA is taking their sponsorship of NASCAR and the racing sports to a new level this year, grasping at a chance to re-brand the Sprint Cup Series April 13 500 race, following Samsungs departure as the leading sponsor. It will be the first NRA 500.
Weve had other offers but a lot of people wait and expect you to drop your price. Thats not something we do. Were not going to be a discount speedway, said Texas Motor Speedway president Eddie Gossage, not revealing specific details. They were willing to meet the price. They afford us some great marketing opportunities as well with their membership to reach out to them and try to bring their members to attend the race here.
Its not about politics. Its about sports marketing, Gossage continued. They saw it was obviously a very attractive sports marketing opportunity and seized it. Thats what its all about, Gossage said. Its about putting on one of the great sporting events in America. I know in Atlanta last year they saluted a lot of the people that make America free. They are going to salute American freedoms and American families with this race. Thats their plan so it seemed to be a good fit.
The NRA 500 is the latest announcement in the long history of a growing partnership between the NRA, Speedway Motorsports and the NASCAR community. NRA members and NASCAR fans love their country and everything that is good and right about America. We salute our flag, volunteer at our churches and communities, cherish our families and we love racing, said the NRAs Wayne LaPierre.

Mixed feelings about it. Really wish NASCAR would drop the stupid PC diversity driver program it’s promoting. Lots of their regular drivers were from poor families and those that scrimped and sacrificed to get their kid a career, or dad to make it as a driver. Nobody targeted them for their poorness or neediness despite their talent. Lots of talented drivers better than these narrowly selected (non white males) won’t get any help from NASCAR to try to make it.
I am just tired of all this stupid crap. You shouldn’t get any special treatment because you have breasts or your skin is a certain color. We just have to get past this reactionary, backwards way of viewing people.
I guess I am tired of people promoting hypocrisy and double standards as morally superior to everyone being treated as equals and the same rules apply to everyone.
I would just be happy if all the cars weren’t “equal” and Not Actually Stock Car Racing went back to STOCK CARS ....instead of same car racing.
