Three of the 333 firearms handed over during a seven-hour buyback conducted by Springfield police on Saturday were deemed by officers to be assault weapons.
Officer Richard Rodrigues said one of the weapons was a Chinese model, another resembled an AR-15 and the third was a Hi-Tec.
Each one of those weapons netted $100 worth of VISA gift cards for those who turned them in. Information on the specific models was not immediately available.

Of the firearms turned in Saturday, 112 were shotguns, 101 were handguns, 117 were rifles and three were black powder guns, Rodrigues said.
Two additional firearms, deemed by police firearm experts as potentially rare, will be handed over to the museum at the Springfield Armory National Historic Site for further evaluation. One is a so-called pepperbox handgun and the other is a musket, Rodrigues said.

Turning in a firearm worth $3000 at today’s prices for a $100 gift card.
Oh wait it’s Massachusetts.
I once knew a Chinese girl that was killer, she was beautiful enough to be a model. Wouldn't have traded her for all the gift cards in the world.
Those black powder Pilgrim Blunderbusses are worth a fortunate. But in Massachusetts they are designated as WMD and destroyed.
My tongue is in my cheek, but at least I’m not in Assachusetts.
Lets see...last month there were 2.3 million background checks...assuming 95% resulted in successful sales, that’s 78,035 a day.
At that rate, the 333 guns ‘taken off the street’ were replaced in 6 minutes.
I’m not even sure I would sell mine for 3 times what I paid for it.
How many convicted felons, crazy nuts and other criminals participated?
Looks like many of those types must be retired by now now doesn't it....
I understand that these are “no questions asked” events. Do they check the serial numbers to see if the guns can be returned to the people they were stolen from?
“How many convicted felons, crazy nuts and other criminals participated?”
Likely all of them. Great way to get rid of a dirty gun
and the rest were stolen!
Wow! Did they take pictures? Do we actually get to see one of these mysterious “assault weapons” we’ve been hearing sooo much about?
I wonder how many were turned in by ticked off soon to be X wives....
IIRC, they said they would check all s/n to see if any are stolen and try to return it.
In 'their' parlance, a rifle is a stand off weapon. If all you have is a handgun then you are already dead when one of those new DHS armored vehicles rolls up your street.
Yep, starting with the semis, then moving to the scoped deer rifles aka “terrorist sniper rifles.”
“No real hunter needs a telescopic sight to murder Bambi!”
My GF says she loves your Enemies trilogy, cannot stop reading,,says you are absolutely visionary and prophetic. As soonas she finishes them its Castigo Cay.I am trying to convince her the life of living on a boat in the Cairibbean.......
1. A pistol is to protect you and/or a loved one from an armed assailant.
2. A shotgun is to protect you and/or your loved ones from an armed intruder to your home.
3. A semi-automatic tactical rifle is to keep the government from trying to take numbers 1 and 2.
