Community slams police for hanging knitted pom-poms from trees

Police officers spent hours hanging knitted pom-poms from trees in a bizarre bid to 'reduce the fear of crime' - rather than going after criminals.

Residents around Bede Park in Leicester say they want more street lighting and CCTV cameras after a survey found people living there felt more at risk than anywhere else in the city.

Academics say the fluffy balls will make people smile, inducing feelings of security.

But locals dubbed it the 'worst crime fighting idea ever'.

Articles that explain how modern liberals suffer from a mental disorder.

Here in Seattle they are doing research on what makes communities “happy”. Looking at data from around the world, then trying to emulate those communities. I imagine with numerous visits to those wonderful cities as well - for research purposes only of course. /s

While it DOES make sense to a degree, trying to fit the habits of some remote village in Nepal to a western city probably has some huge problems. Although I suppose if some VOLUNTEERS want to beautify their neighborhoods - go for it.

Actually, seeing the balls of some of our elected officials and some others in authority hanging from a tree would sure cheer me up.

Yes!!! Absolutely. Unfortunately most of our state reps and senators here in CO who just voted for several absurd gun control laws are old biddies so they never had any to begin with. On that note; next Christmas I think I will decorate a tree with 30 rd magazines that I will drive up to WY and buy then smuggle back into the state.

Utter and nonsensical idiocy.

The sheep may feel safer, but the wolves will only find them easier pickings.

Whose moronic idea was this?

Yeah. That'll work.

I feel safer already. Can I move to Leicester?

Good marketing idea for protests.

Perhaps a couple of little fluffy balls, labeled with your favorite politicians name - you hang them in effigy from a tree at the next protest you attend.

Sell the “kits” for a couple of bucks each at rallies.

You will make a fortune.

An it is politically protected speech. ;)

Notoriously, gangs hang sneakers in trees/power lines to *mark* their territory.

Remember Good Ol' Shoe - [from Wag the Dog]?....................government shenanigans.

Just hang a few thugs from the trees.

That will cause a real crime reduction.

“Academics say the fluffy balls will make people smile, inducing feelings of security.”

Great idea. Now let’s see them use it to provide security for their politicians and other powers that be. /s

In the US, however, the police might not be the ones to hang the fluffy pom-poms. There are various other municipal unions that would demand the job, and a bitter turf war could erupt.
