If Paul gets help, he can do this for days.

“All I’m asking of the president is that he says in public that he’s not in favor of summarily executing people.” Rand Paul?

He has accomplished more and made more sense in 12 hours than his dad did in two decades.

Obama will never answer the question—He will not deem to lower himself for a Senator Tea Party person. he will let his people cut him off at the knees-—he things the MSM will back him up in anything he does—I believe he is mistaken.

Until he bitched out...I’d have had aides bring me a curtain and a port-a-potty and kept on for days. People these days have no imagination!

Didn’t Pelosi do that years ago?

She still looks like she is pinching one off.

This is the closest I’ve come to a real rebellion in the Senate. It ended with a whimper.

Is this what our Republic has become????????????

“Until he bitched out”?? Easy to criticize from the cheap seats.

Sen. Rand showed courage today, that is sorely lacking in Washington.

The fifth longest filibuster in American political history was conducted by U.S. Sen. William Proxmire of Wisconsin, who spoke for 16 hours and 12 minutes to stall debate on an increase of the public debt ceiling in 1981.

Proxmire was concerned about the nation's rising debt level. The bill he wanted to stall action on authorizing a total debt of $1 trillion. link

Come on, give the guy credit. He couldn’t leave the floor. It’s a stupid law, and more than one person should be able to filibuster. Otherwise, the filibuster is no check or balance. You just have to wait a couple of hours.

Within his ability, Ran Paul did a good job today, went to the limit, and I salute him and all who helped. I’ll even give a tiny smudge of credit to little dick Durbin. At least he had the guts to come and debate in a respectful way.

This is not a last stand, it’s a first. We should be doing this A LOT more. I was actually interested in hearing what people had to say! People with conviction spoke out tonight, and I hope they continue to.

Is this a question that began with the Federal Sniper at Ruby Ridge?

Just checked CNN.com, cbsnews.com, and msnbc.com. The Paul filibuster is a text-only sub-level headline that is not called out. You can hardly find out that this event took place.

Amazing.

Beyond that, Ted Cruz in conjunction with Paul and the others grilled this administration over the constitution and whether the Gov could spy on us and just shoot us dead without a trial.

That is precisely what the question is about.

lol...yeah, well, actual COURAGE would have been KEEPING IT UP an finding a way to take a leak or whatever and still doing what he believed in. But he gave up. He bitched out. And if I were in the US Senate and not in the ‘cheap seats’, I wouldn’t have done that, but oh dear, I’m not a US Senator, so I guess that I’m not allowed to have an opinion according to you...you can go straight to hell as far as I’m concerned.

More than one person can filibuster but once the original speaker yields the floor a member can ask for cloture. If cloture is not voted the filibuster continues. A member once given tbe floor cannot be forced to yield as long as he is physically able to speak and stand. By yielding for a question, as we saw today, the member is able to get a break, but cannot leave the floor.
