Andrea Mitchell Decries Arkansas Passing 'Most Restrictive Abortion Legislation in Decades'

On her Thursday 1 p.m. ET hour show on MSNBC, host Andrea Mitchell denounced a newly passed law in Arkansas preventing abortions after 12 weeks: "We're talking about the most restrictive abortion legislation in decades. Most people do not think it will pass court test muster..."

She lamented to Time magazine's Nancy Gibbs: "We're still debating whether or not in the first trimester there should be the right to abortion, all these years after Roe v. Wade." Gibbs joined in the hand-wringing: "There are a growing number of states where there are simply no abortion providers available or there's only one in the entire state, or the restrictions have become so great that effectively there is no availability of abortion....This is just the latest of what has been a pretty steady stream of state level efforts to roll back that access."

NBC and CBS similarly hyped the law as the "most restrictive abortion law in the country."

Here is a transcript of the brief March 7 exchange:

1:40PM ET

(...)

ANDREA MITCHELL: I wanted to also raise the issue of this Arkansas legislation now. We're talking about the most restrictive abortion legislation in decades. Most people do not think it will pass court test muster, but what about that, Nancy Gibbs? We're still debating whether or not in the first trimester there should be the right to abortion, all these years after Roe v. Wade.

NANCY GIBBS [DEPUTY MANAGING EDITOR, TIME]: But we're seeing this in more and more states, Andrea. So much of the fight over abortion is now being fought state by state, regardless of what happens at the national level. There are a growing number of states where there are simply no abortion providers available or there's only one in the entire state, or the restrictions have become so great that effectively there is no availability of abortion. So when we talk about the laws, there are many things that are blocking access to abortion besides the actual laws being passed. This is just the latest of what has been a pretty steady stream of state level efforts to roll back that access.

It seems Andrea Mitchell is one of the few liberals left who seem more humanitarian than political in her anxiety driven panic about Arkansas passing the most restrictive abortion legislation in decades because after all, Andrea herself is way beyond her child-bearing years and not ever be effected by Arkansas' anachronistic restrictions, despite the advances in fertility science.

Already, congressional liberals from many states have started drafting legislation to outlaw the State and declare it null and void, be made into a vast wasteland for hunting, fishing and all sorts outdoor sport activities.

It’s okay Andrea, don’t worry, you can still be aborted if you want.

I wonder how many babies Andrea aborted in order to get ahead in her career?

does anyone expect baby killers will obey this law any more than they obey parental notification/consent and reporting statutory rape laws??

this was on the web a few weeks back:

why is it that pro abortionists believe a developing fetus in the womb is only a cell and not a living being but a single cell organism that is found on Mars is somehow considered to be life?

It’s not as if she will be needing an abortion. I doubt even Laz would hit that.

Why do they care?

It’s a lot easier, safer, and cheaper to just drown their infants in bath water...and there is basically no difference.

We're still debating whether or not in the first trimester there should be the right to abortion, all these years after Roe v. Wade.

Let's do some rudimentary math that you don't need to consult your husband for, Andrea.

Nine month pregnancy and trimesters? Tri = Three. 9 months divided by three is three. So there's three months in a trimester. Amazing.

There's also four weeks in a month. Three months in a trimester times four weeks is ... 12!

TWELVE WEEKS into a pregnancy is the first trimester. This law concerns itself with the SECOND trimester, the time period AFTER 12 weeks.

You, madame, are an idiot demagogue propagandist spewing alarmist irrelevancies.

Didn’t Andrea’s hero Obama say, “If we could only save one child?”

Her biographies don't mention any children.

ARKANSAS?! Isn’t that Clinton’s territory? I’d have thought Hillary would have abortion all sewed up in Arkansas before now. - The Andrea Gibsons of the world are so afraid they’re going to come across as ignorant that they come across as ignorant.

Since she is as fertile as the Mohave Desert her opinion shouldn’t count.

This is a fetus at 12 weeks.

Clearly just a blob of cells. Not a human being.

The thought of other people’s babies getting out alive drives the blood thirsty witch crazy. Sooner or later, the watermelons are going to roll out their official one child policy.

“We’re still debating whether or not in the first trimester there should be the right to abort . . .”

I’ve been active in the pro-life movement since 1970, when a ballot referendum in the state of my then residence legalized abortion (I don’t remember specific limitations imposed, if any). But I am not expert in law. It is said that a right to abort cannot be found in the U. S. Constitution, but do not the Roe v. Wade findings assert and implicitly presume to acknowledge and defend such a right? In my opinion abortion for the sake of personal convenience is utterly inconsistent, by implication if not in explicit language, with the very founding principles of the U. S. A., and thus would not be authorized by a Constitution designed to lend operational substance to the Declaration of Independence.

"TWELVE WEEKS into a pregnancy is the first trimester. This law concerns itself with the SECOND trimester, the time period AFTER 12 weeks. "

I hate to stick up for Andrea Alzheimerz, but there are 13 weeks in 3 months, not 12 (unless Popeye Pelosi made every month 28 days long and we're just finding out now). So, by a few days, she's correct, 13 weeks, not 12, in one trimester.
