Colorado Anti-Second Amendment Legislator's Criminal Record Exposed
RedState ^ | March 6, 2013 | Kyle Forti

According to a Colorado Bureau of Investigations report obtained by Media Trackers, State Representative Rhonda Fields (D-Aurora) was arrested in 1976 on a charge of larceny and again in 1991 on a charge of shoplifting. Despite her own criminal record, Rep. Fields has sought to limit the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens.

An apparent mugshot of Fields was posted to the Magpul Industries Facebook page by a private user after legislation to limit gun magazine capacity, which was cosponsored by Fields, drove the company to announce that it was closing its doors in Colorado and moving out of state.

Rep. Fields has sponsored multiple gun control bills currently under debate in the Colorado Legislature, including legislation to ban on magazines with the capacity to hold more that 15 rounds, criminalize the private sale or transfer of a firearm without a background check, ban on concealed carry permits on the college campuses, and increase background check fees.

Fields has also co-sponsored Sen. Evie Hudak’s legislation which would not only strip anyone subject to a restraining order of their Second Amendment rights, but would also require the same to relinquish any firearms they own to the state.

Sen. Hudak has recently been in the national spotlight for remarks she made to rape survivor Amanda Collins. During testimony from Collins which detailed how her attacker was able to target her while she was unarmed due to a campus ban on concealed carry in Nevada, Hudak told Collins that “actually statistics are not on your side even if you had a gun.”

Additionally, Fields was the sole sponsor in the House to sign on to Sen. John Morse’s (D-Colorado Springs) legislation to institute civil liability on firearms manufacturers, sellers, and owner for any damage incurred through the use of their firearms.

Despite her criminal history, Rep. Fields has previously received campaign donations from the Aurora Police Association.

Media Trackers attempted to contact Fields at her office multiple times, but the Representative was unavailable for comment as the calls were unanswered.

Sad but true, she’s proven her street cred with the homies so the dems love her, but wouldn’t dare walk thru the homie’s neighborhood w/o a gun or armed escort.

Thug: a violent person, especially a criminal. This criminal is a thug. Using or attempting to use the power of the State (i.e., violence) to disarm or curtail the law-abiding peoples’ freedom, as she is doing, reveals this criminal as a thug. This criminal should resign in disgrace, and repent of her thuggish thuggery.

This is the representative who was threatened by email. The guy who did it has been charged with a felony.

Her son agreed to testify against a gang member. He and his fiance were gunned down in a park. She also represents a district in Aurora. These are among the reasons she is so aggressive on gun control.

She's not a bad person, she's just wrong. None of the bills pending in the legislature would have stopped Columbine, Aurora or the murder of her son and his fiance.

Colorado must be proud of having convicted criminals serving in the legislature. Why is that permitted?

And there is more:

A key Colorado lawmaker behind Democratic efforts to increase gun restrictions in the state has a more extensive criminal record than was previously reported according to court records. Although Rep. Rhonda Fields (D-Aurora) has previously claimed that her criminal record of larceny and shoplifting was due to a “dark” and “desperate” time in her life, public records show that her disregard for the state’s laws continued well into her tenure as an elected lawmaker. State court records reveal multiple offenses committed by Fields that were not previously reported, including at least one while holding public office at the state level.

For example, Fields pleaded guilty to writing bad checks in 1998 when she was charged by the Ft. Collins Police Department. Fields was eventually required to pay fines and court costs of $344. The charge could have landed Fields a jail sentence of up to 30 days.

Fields also demonstrated a willful disregard for state and local traffic laws, racking up infractions in 2011, when she was a sitting lawmaker, in 2009, and in 2007. In 2011, she was fined $130 for a lane assignment infraction near the intersection of 6th and Lincoln in Denver. She was fined $130 in 2009 for speeding between 15 and 19 miles per hour over the speed limit at the Denver International Airport. In December of 2007, she was fined $190 for speeding between 10 and 14 miles per hour over the speed limit in Denver.

A 1989 careless driving charge in Littleton ended up costing Fields a fine of $576. That case was finally closed in 1996 according to court records.

All told, the fines connected to Fields’ five previously unreported criminal infractions total more than $1,300.

Given that Fields has chosen a high profile role in pushing for new restrictions on gun and ammunition ownership, her past record of ignoring simple traffic laws calls into question her assumption that violent criminals will abide by any new gun restrictions.

I really don’t care what her personal problems are.
Other than the fact that somebody with her record shouldn’t be a public official in the first place.
Because she is an elected official, she doesn’t get a benefit of a doubt.
You people better wake up. This isn’t a frikkin game.
The country and its population will live and die by the decisions made by these morons.

Sadly it’s not just CO:

Alcee Hastings (D-FL) who was impeached as a federal judge and removed from the bench. Yet he now represents the people in the US House. Democrats are always quick to exploit any moral flaws a republican might show but the same flaws for them are resume enhancers.

Is it time yet to ask the question; should we not watch those who we allow to participate in our governance? If it is not proper to ask such a question I'll wait another 10 years before I bring such an issue up again.
