While it is widely assumed that the too-big-to-fail banks in the US (and elsewhere) are beyond the criminal justice system - based on simple empirical fact - when the Attorney General of the United States openly admits to the fact that he is "concerned that the size of some of these institutions becomes so large that it does become difficult for us to prosecute them," since, "it will have a negative impact on the national economy, perhaps even the world economy," one has to stare open-mouthed at the state of our union. It appears, just as the proletariat assumed, that too-big-to-fail banks are indeed too-big-to-jail.
GRASSLEY: On the issue of bank prosecution, I'm concerned that we have a mentality of too-big-to-jail in the financial sector of spreading from fraud cases to terrorist financing and money laundering cases -- and I cite HSBC. So I think we're on a slippery slope.
HOLDER: The concern that you have raised is one that I, frankly, share. And I'm not talking about HSBC now. That (inaudible) be appropriate.
But I am concerned that the size of some of these institutions becomes so large that it does become difficult for us to prosecute them when we are hit with indications that if you do prosecute, if you do bring a criminal charge, it will have a negative impact on the national economy, perhaps even the world economy. And I think that is a function of the fact that some of these institutions have become too large.

Yeah, it’s like trying to prosecute a criminal AG or a criminal POTUS!
conversely this means they will have no qualms going after little pissant citizens like you.
Then they need to be broken up.
They are not just “above the law” they are beyond the comprehension of the law.
The US must invest in auditing and enforcement sufficient to protect investors and the public, but that would interfere with the schemes of major campaign contributors of both parties, wouldn’t it?
Have to love the equal protection laws that we are suppose to abide by? Guess it just depends on how much money you have. Can we just say the we have the the best government that money can buy!
Oh, and let’s not pretend that it is party dependent - those in charge could care less. Those that provide the money for their campaigns are always going to get the gratis.
It’s called politics! Our country is not going down the drain fast just because of left or right but because of the money that buys our politicians. Don’t really see a way out here...

It's called 'The Savings and Loan'. You start in each State with "Momma dollar and Papa dollar" and get your neighbor to do the same.
It's no problem on a small scale, but start a people's movement away from the banks and it won't happen like it did in the movies. That much power will not be happy about not being fed or FED and will play dirty.
So the likelihood of pulling off a move away from the banks on a large scale, without a historical revolution, is slim to none.
This was, in my opinion, the original idea of the Democrat party..but they got taken over by their own crooks...the unions, who started slowly taking funds for themselves and have now gone global with their hosing operation of "the people".
So ya..it's all corrupt to the core. There is no grand governing ideology on either side of R&D(short for false two party)..only power breeding more power.
The TEA Party movement has a small chance to make a difference if it goes for the already underlining strength of the Libertarians but could easily be co-opted into the GOP-e without strong leaders literally willing to put their life and career on the line. There is too much historical precedence to suggest that such leadership and all that it may require, is not to be taken lightly by the enlightened. If our leaders come out...be ready to back them.
