Rep. Paul Ryan said that a Thursday lunch with President Obama at the White House was the first conversation between the two men that lasted more than a few minutes.
This is the first time Ive ever had a conversation with the president lasting more than, say, two minutes or televised exchanges, Mr. Ryan, Wisconsin Republican and chairman of the House Budget Committee, said on Fox News Sunday. So Ive never really had a conversation with him on these issues before. Im excited that we had this conversation we had a very frank exchange. We come from different perspectives; I ran against him in the last election. So we exchanged very different frank, candid views with one another that were very different. But at least we had this conversation.
Mr. Obama had dinner with Republican Senators last week, many of whom also expressed optimism after the meal about the presidents so-called charm offensive and engagement with members of Congress. Rep. Chris Van Hollen, Maryland Democrat and ranking member of the House Budget Committee, was also at the Thursday lunch.
But Mr. Ryan said whether the two parties end up coming together on issues such as the budget and tax reform will depend on Mr. Obama.

The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
A white GOP congressman would be very low on the totem pole when it comes to communicating with Obama. This is a guy who has Beyonce over to the house..to sing. Free. Why would he bother talking the Chairman of the Budget Committee?
Sounds like both their PR firms are working over time. Maybe it’s time to ban PR firms. I know I could do with a lot less commercials.
Yeah, it’s a shame that we understand that this is strictly political mush. Too bad that the media can’t give us any facts (even if they could, they wouldn’t). Sounds like another Obama media event to me - nothing expected, nothing accomplished.
I’m more worried about our Tea Party Representatives losing their way in the mess that is Washington.
I hear ya.
Amen Deagle—I’m getting used to being disappointed by what we had assumed to be our most motivated and trusted patriots— jeez that DC sewer corrupts fast and furious....
Does Obama finally realize that he over his head and made so many enemies that he needs to look agreeable with somebody, even if they are Republicans.
He is seeing himself going down in the polls. He is getting push back on Second Amendment and his gun grabbing.
Benghazi was a disaster. I suspect someone international has given him a smack down behind the scenes. He is the butt on SNL humor sometimes.
I think he is falling apart and I think he thinks he is falling apart. The charade catches up sooner or later. Wonder if he knows how he might go down in history. Maybe the Arab Spring disaster is finally catching up with him.
Michelle can't be easy to get along with especially with her lavish vacations and wild spending when so many people are unemployed.
I don't think history will treat him well. I don't think history should treat him well.
Yes, it is an unfortunate fact of political life that those that we elect become corrupted by Washington. Wish I could say that life is good and good always overcomes bad but alas...
Yes, as others have said here, life is tough in Washington and it does require a strong moral compass. I do think that the Tea Party elected folks know and respond to that. I’m just not so sure that Washington will not corrupt them just as this town has done to so many others. I keep my fingers crossed at all times..
This year, I do have higher hopes than usual with this class coming in. If McCain and his followers subvert this group of youngsters then we probably have no chance to overcome Washington’s imperial class of rulers. As I said though, I do have high hopes with this bunch and most especially Ted Cruz (Go Texas) and Rand Paul.
Might be my last year of giving a damn though as age and attitude tend to dilute my efforts. Just hope that the next generation cares enough to continue the fight.
Why can't they be physically serving in their own districts? Split them up physically and special interest's groups will have a harder time of getting to the pols and there being in their own districts might make the officials more attuned to their constituents.
There are way more ways now in the electronic meetings, etc. Send email that such and such meeting is going to take place and then hook up everyone when the meeting is scheduled for interactivity.
Like the idea - just try getting that past Washington!
It is probably past time to get our Representatives and Senators more in touch with their constituencies using today’s technology. I really like your idea but doubt that it will ever be implemented for obvious reasons.
Power is concentrated in Washington for a reason...(all of the lobbyists are located there) if you move individuals out to the States, they will suffer dramatically - hence better Government! - That can not be.
The 12 disciples of ‘let’s all get along’ with the master should step back and visualize what the supper might have symbolized. I suspect Jarret and the rest of Obama’s enablers are smirking at the symbolism of Obama and the 12 diners.
You could say that, I suppose.
ha ha ha
I missed the symbolism of obama inviting 12 RINOS out on a dinner date - and picking up the check with taxpayer money
Now before obama leaves for the Holy Land, Jerusalem and his staged entry into the 2d temple 5 days before Passover (a feat performed by another Messiah over 2000 years ago) we need a photoshopped velvet painting of “The Last Supper” with obama and the 12 RINOs (Kelly Ayotte gets to be Mary Magdelene in disguise?)
Only question is which one gets to be Judas
Lindsay Graham.
Only question is which one gets to be Judas.

They will draw straws.
NONE of them will object to kissing the ARSE of ‘The One’.
Of course, some will also make sure to ‘lay a big ‘un’ on his hind parts as well.
This new term has worn out its welcome already “charm offensive”.....
Offensive can also be construed as ‘In your face’.
As in:
I find it ‘offensive’ that the word charm (also could wind up as bedazzled) and offensive are in the same sentence.
Of course, it could read:
Obama and 12 of his Disciples met under what could be called “an Alice in Wonderland type setting” prior his trip to the Holy Land.
If they want to see the ‘Wizard(s)’ Just go down to the arena on 7th St.
Also have ‘heard enough’ of the ‘Lottery to name the New Pope’......
Local TV (WTOP 9 WASHDC (CBS)) has a LIVE reporter in Rome to cover the event.
Thought we were ‘broke’????
