The reason the number of people receiving food stamps is increasing isn’t because there are more people in “poverty.” Its because Obama keeps expanding eligibility so that lower middle class and even some middle class people can get food stamps. He’s trying to get everyone hooked on government. If everyone is getting some type of government check, they won’t want to cut spending. Its more creeping Socialism that has little to do with actually needing food.
Hypothetical question for FReepers:
If we all believe that a total system collapse is almost inevitable then why don’t conservatives sign up for every one of these programs they can, use the extra money to prepare themselves for the coming economic doomage and go ahead and hasten the crisis? Why not reverse Cloward Piven on the socailists?
Of course that would require a willing suspension of morality and some people would have a harder time with that than others ...

How does this help?
College kids from Middle Class backgrounds get Foodstamps (EBT).
I know some. Because they are on Work-Study, they automatically qualify for Foodstamps.
As soon as they got the card, they went to Trader Joes and stocked up on organic goodies.
Was at Costco this weekend, where an African American gentleman ahead of us had a cart full of $300 pounds of only top quality meat.
His EBT (foodstamps) card was rejected.
He was pi$$ed.
My local fishmonger reports that people will come in and load up on lobster, king crab legs, and everything else that costs around $20 / pound.
Then they come to the register and try to pay with foodstamps (EBT).
He now has a sign saying “EBT NOT ACCEPTED.”
He tells me, “I’m trying to run an upscale place with great product for a high-end clientele. I don’t want to take foodstamps!”
My neighbor in Southern Oregon was getting more and more wealthy through the 0bama Recession / Depression with his pizza parlor.
I asked him, “How is it that you’re doing so well when unemployment around here is about 20%?”
Answer: “It’s TAKE-AND-BAKE pizza, so I can accept the EBT.”
My wife lined up behind a well-dressed woman in line with all the best organic and specialty food items. High end spices, French cheeses, etc.
She paid with the EBT.
I know of a school where all the kids are on Free and Reduced Lunch program, and all the families have the EBT card.
Nonetheless, the kids are picked up after school by mom (and sometimes “dad”, though not legally “dad” because that would reduce the welfare check).....

The state with the highest average number of participants per month in 2012 was Texas, with an astonishing 4,038,440 folks drawing from the program.

I know in Michigan they redid the eligibility requirements and college students were not allowed to receive foodstamps. The food stamp ebt in Michigan has been revamped whereby the recipient no longer receive food stamps at the beginning of the month, the state has implemented by the day of the month certain number of recipients receive the benefit for 22 days, whereby the number of recipients receiving the food stamps is spread throughout the month.
Think about how this works. The liberals (some of them)have honorable intentions, but they are incapable of seeing the unintended consequences.
When you subsidize those that can’t or won’t work - you sustain them to do something. Idle people tend (especially young people) toward a couple of activities - crime and procreation. So the act of food stamps, welfare, etc. results in even more people to sustain and increased crime - thus the crapholes that many of our inner cities have become.as long as we subsidize this, the worse the problem will become.
The so called “compassion” is not compassion at all, it is an increasing of the problem with no way out except bankruptcy and anarchy
