MILLER: The illogic of Feinstein’s ‘assault weapons’ ban
The Washington Times ^ | 14 May, 2013 | Emily Miller

The Senate Judiciary Committee passed Thursday Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s “assault weapons” ban by a straight party-line vote, despite Republican efforts to point out the obvious holes in the legislation.

The California Democrat’s bill — which prohibits 157 specific firearms, those with a single cosmetic feature she thinks is scary looking and standard magazines that have over 10 rounds — applies to all Americans except current and retired law enforcement officers. She believes this one class is able to use the firearms for self defense.

Sen. John Cornyn attempted to point out the flaws in the logic of her legislation. During the first part of the markup on March 7, Mr. Cornyn said that the exception for law enforcement is a “remarkable concession” because the “bill sponsors have long declared that so called assault weapons are purely offensive in nature — as in designed for killing — hence the name ‘assault weapon.’”

He explained that the one exception conceded ”that there are at least some Americans who should be allowed to possess these weapons for the purpose of defending themselves, their families and their communities.”

The Texas Republican strongly opposes the “assault weapons” ban, but used the amendment process to show the absurdity of only allowing certain Americans use the banned guns for self defense. Mr. Cornyn offered several amendments in committee and will hold the rest for the full Senate floor debate. Mrs. Feinstein said Thursday that this was an effort to “nip it and tuck it” and opposed Mr. Cornyn’s efforts.

The whole idea of "gun control" is absurd in the United States.

Definitely something to show you are mentally ill ~ to suffer from delusions about banning firearms.

This old bat has 137 other countries more to her liking ~ she should go there soon.

Limit law enforcement to only the weapons allowed to citizens.

Di Fi definitely way off her meds. Retirement to a gun control nation such as Cuba surely would benefit her. (and US)

She should be mocked. Liberals hate being mocked or ridiculed more than anything else - it is there Achilles heel. They believe that they are superior to all others and cannot stand to be judged by those inferior to them.

The left wants to disarm us because they are keenly aware that the number of people in their graves who were murdered while they were armed is miniscule compared to the number of people in their graves who were murdered while they were disarmed. Their heroes are Stalin and Mao. Our heroes are the men who met the British who came to disarm them.

Of course her argument is illogical. That’s because she and the liberals are lying about their true intentions. The ultimate objective is the complete elimination of guns among “civilians” . (I use quotes because cops are, in fact, civilians). They want complete ban and confiscation.

Never forget this. When they say “nobody wants to take your guns” that is an outright lie.

I heard a statistic from a gun grabber (radio show). I think the guest cited 30K gun related deaths in the US as a basis for his support of the legislation. That seemed awfully high to me. I did some research.

“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention calculates that each year there are more than 11,000 gun homicides and nearly 19,000 gun suicides. That’s 30,000 firearms deaths a year in the United States. At that rate, there have already been some 2,500 violent gun deaths since Sandy Hook.”

# Deaths Cause
606 Accidental discharge of firearms

19,392 Intentional self-harm (suicide) by discharge of firearms

11,078 Assault (homicide) by discharge of firearms

252 Discharge of firearms, undetermined intent

http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/dvs/deaths_2010_release.pdf

Page 23

Here is the problem. The “Assualt (homicide) by discharge category” includes self defense and LEO shootings as well. Also, these statistics (if I am reading correctly) include all Americans as long as their origins are US. If they submit a death cert in the US, regardless of where it happened, it goes in the stats. How many are Military overseas, in Territories, Mexico, etc. I can’t find that info.

Exactly correct. The whole MSM is corrupt because they know this and do not expose it. They believe it is alright, mandatory even, to deceive and lie to accomplish what they want.
