NRA President David Keene believes President Barack Obama and other Democrats who want to expand gun control have been shocked by the outpouring of support for Second Amendment.
Speaking to Newsmax TV at CPAC 2013, Keene said former president Bill Clinton was right when he warned Obama around Christmas last year to tread carefully as he considered expanding gun restrictions.
(Gun control proposals were) one of the main reason for Republicans seizing the House in 1994. Americans care about the Second Amendment and president is seeing that, Keene said. Keene was in Albany recently following the passage of expanded gun control in New York. There, he witnessed more than 10,000 braving the rain to protest the expanded laws, which he believes sent a strong message to the president and Democrats.
There are rallies like that all over the country. Members of Congress are receiving lots of letters. Its clear the narrative that the president tried to construct was wrong. Thats the reason that a lot of what (Obama) proposed is being slowed down, Keene said.

I encourage the Dems vociferously to continue their war on the 2nd Amendment. It’ll help clear them out faster from Congress!
Americans care about the "Constitution"....there, fixed it.
A dem voter at my work is crying about gun control. “They better not take my guns”.
You voted for it IDIOT!
Most rural folk who buy into the “Democrats are for the working man” line are 2amendment supporters, unlike the gay and white hipster city folk who do not support it.
Dems don't understand - guns aren't the problem. Criminals are the problem. Maybe Obama doesn't 'get it' because over 90% of criminals are democrats.
And hopefully help them lose control of the Senate as well.
If we could get the senate under a majority of Republicans and strengthen our hold on the house then we could put Oblama out to pasture and keep all his worthless ideas from seeing the light of day.
That would be beautiful.
It amazes me that there are still in some rural enclaves Dem voters who still buy that line. They think it is still 1940. I know a few. They remind me of the lone Japanese soldiers we heard about on remote islands in the 60s still thinking it was WW2.
To democrats, the phrase “shall not be infringed” applies solely to Roe v. Wade, which, unlike the 2nd Amendment, appears nowhere in writing in the Constitution, and which has accounted for the wholesale slaughter of more than 50 million Americans, unlike the legal firearms of law abiding Americans.
Is anyone else concerned that David Keene, formerly ACU is now running the NRA...the same guy who recently resigned from running CPAC, and that GRover Norquist is on the NRA board and running CPAC? Can’t we find some new blood in these organizations that aren’t corrupt radical muslim, illegal alien, amnesty loving hacks??? Really?
In about 30 years, you will have a populace clammoring for gun control.
Background for my previous post. We need patriots, not amoral LOBBYISTS heading these groups. It’s the same handful of them running EVERYTHING. NOT good!
WASHINGTON Is ACU jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire?
Several American Conservative Union board members have confirmed that David Keene, the chairman of the board of the ACU, is planning to resign at the groups next meeting. The meeting has not been scheduled yet, but the board will be convened about the time of the next Conservative Political Action Conference, which is being held in Washington D.C. on Feb. 1012.
An ACU board member lamented that Keenes likeliest successor, ACU Treasurer Al Cardenas, may share the lack of commitment to social conservatism that has plagued ACU in the latter years of Keenes chairmanship.
Keene has served as chairman of the ACU for more than 26 years, since Dec. 1984. A longtime Republican political strategist and adviser to several GOP presidential candidates, Keene is also the managing associate of the Carmen Group, a Washington, D.C., lobbying firm, and first vice president of the National Rifle Association.
Keene is leaving ACU in a state of turmoil. The organization alienated social conservatives by permitting a homosexual activist organization, GOProud, to participate in its signature project, the annual CPAC convention. As a result, some of the best-known conservative organizations, including the Heritage Foundation, Family Research Council, American Family Association, Concerned Women for America, Media Research Center and the National Organization for Marriage are not participating in the conference this year.
At the same time ACU has been rocked by a financial scandal in which hundreds of thousands of dollars was reported to the Internal Revenue Service as misappropriated and the group is coming under fire from national security conservatives for allowing Suhail Khan, an alleged associate of radical Muslim activists, to serve on the board.
David has said hes going to be leaving to pursue other opportunities, said board member Becky Norton Dunlop. This is going to be his last term.
Keene is expected to become president of the NRA later this year.
The ACU board will choose his successor, said board member Morton Blackwell. Keenes replacement is yet to be determined, according to Blackwell.
The election [of the new chairman] will be held at the next board meeting, right around CPAC time, Dunlop added.
The board members said only one candidate has stepped forward to replace Keene, ACU board treasurer Al Cardenas. Cardenas, a Miami attorney and Washington lobbyist, is the former chairman of the Republican Party of Florida.
Al Cardenas
A board member who asked not to be identified acknowledged that ACU needs major structural changes, but told WND he doubts Cardenas is the man for the job.
From what I understand Cardenas is the insiders choice, and he looks to be unopposed, said the board member with disappointment. I want to see reform. Its frustrating to see a fig leaf rather than somebody whos going to implement the reforms needed at ACU. Selecting Cardenas is like papering over the problems ACU has, some of which are fundamental.
The board member pointed out that Cardenas supported Charlie Crist even long after Rubio got into the race. Crist, the socially liberale former governor of Florida, lost the states 2010 Republican Senate primary to Marco Rubio, speaker of Floridas house. Crist then left the Republican Party and ran in the general election as an independent, but lost again to Rubio, a social conservative and tea-party favorite.
I have a long history with Speaker Marco Rubio, personally, professionally, and politically, along with a great respect for his passion and his ability to articulate the conservative principles that we share, said Cardenas. However, he went on to say, As we look to the 2010 election cycle, I urge Republicans to unite the Republican Party by standing behind Governor Crist. With Governor Crist atop the ticket, I am confident that our party will achieve sweeping victories in 2010.
This is not the sort of judgment I would want at the head of ACU, s

I show him pictures of SanFransisco gay parades and gangs and rappers with Obama t-shirts. Shaqueeta with 9 kids on welfare making more money than him.
the democrat base
I tell him thats who he stands with.
If they push this to the point that people die because of it they will ignite a flame like none they've ever seen.
To make what you so eloquently said simpler:
Democrats believe that “shall not be infringed” means they can legally kill an innocent, unborn child at any time, even when the health of the mother is NOT affected, however you and I cannot legally defend ourselves with a gun against violent criminals who would invade our homes, commit burglary or rape our daughters and wives.
Got it. But then all will be ok once our daughters and wives abort the children that were the result of being raped, right?
After all, we wouldn’t want our daughters and wives PUNISHED with an unwanted child now would we?
Just tell him that he wanted ‘change’ and he got it, so STFU!..............
“infringed” means to not even come near, so ANY laws or regulations concerning firearms are unconstitutional.........
Its clear the narrative that the president tried to construct was wrong a bald faced lie. There, fixed it.
It didn’t help in Colorado, a newly-blue state where the Democrat legislature ignored the protests and passed several gun-infringement laws this month. I’m still trying to get over the shock of having my red state turn blue. Immigrants from both coasts have ruined it.
