Caddell is a great man and a John Kennedy Democrat, the kind that many of us were before we became Republicans. He was Carter's pollster, and in 1976 he helped Carter run as the conservative candidate in the race. Carter ran on being a Sunday School teacher from the rural south. His ads played Dixie.

I was a Reagan Democrat, and I voted for Carter as an eighteen year old over the betraying Rino Gerald Ford, who had just verbally trashed my candidate for the better part of a year. I absolutely loathed Ford for his spinelessness, court appointments, and crappy policies. Ford was such a liberal that the commie press turned on Carter with two weeks to go and Ford nearly won an Obama style victory.

Caddell, Jody Powell, and Ham Jordan were the Carter insiders who gave the 1976 campaign its instincts. During the Clinton presidency, Caddell frequently challenged the party orthodoxy. He's the only Democrat around that makes me recognize my former party as it was, instead of today's lineup of communists, useful idiots, P.C. religionists, parasites, dirtbags, and double dipping or more pension sharks.
