As a witness at the hearing, chaired by Pennsylvania Republican Joe Pitts, I testified that the new law will reduce employment in America, particularly for low-skill workers, because employers face a higher cost of labor.
Whenever possible, firms will substitute high-skill for low-skill labor, part-time for full-time workers, machinery for people, and refrain from hiring a 50th worker, which can make them liable for penalties.

It already has. And it’s led to reduced hours to bring full-time down to part-time.
Where is Captain Obvious?
I was getting my hair cut earlier this week and a man was there and he told the beautician that since his hours had been cut he figured he had time to get his hair cut. Just a little anecdotal story. I am sure it is happening across the country. My hours were recently cut from about 36 to 38 along with a lot of other employees where I work.
I hate Obama. Really, really hate him.
Obamacare will reduce U.S. employment
DUUUUuuuuHHHHHHrrrrpppbt!
Congratulations to author of this article for stating what we all knew just a mere 1000+ days ago. Good job! :p
Commune-Style Obama’care’ is the death knell to competition, and market-based supply and demand price regulation.
Don’t forget this is leading to manufacturing “outsourcing”
on steroids. Barry decried “outsourcing” while ingnoring his pal GE, but his progressive policies will fuel this fire.
Why hire US workers or absorb the Obamacare costs through
subcontractors? Barry and crew have turned US workers “toxic”.
Made a metal fabricated product in US since 1994. Everyone of the subs will be passing on Obamacare and enviro costs.
Why fight it?
Jeeeez. That's some word-smithing right there. A more clear way to say it would be "will increase unemployment", but they certainly aren't running interference for the guy, are they???
I thought the same thing. Isn't it so clever of them? It almost (almost) sounds like a good thing...until you think about what they're doing. But I'm not surprised by Market Watch. They've got some columnists there who are more than willing to carry Obama's water.
And those who LIV* among us simply think that its free medical care on demand for all.
*Low Information Voter
Maybe they mean it that way.
From a liberal point of view, not having to work is a good thing.
you’re posting satire now too! ;-]
Wait!
You mean forcing the cost of something (workers) to increase (0bamaCare = More people and conditions covered) causes less of it (workers) to be consumed (employed)?
Who knew, and why weren't we told?
("We have to pass it to find out what's in it...")
Another Obama plan working out just as he hoped.
Good point. Them or most any other mainstream economist anymore. I dropped my subscription to Kiplingers a couple of years ago after their continuous softball approach to Obamacare and its impact on the finances of employers and families. Not to mention the powder-puff interview with Kathleen Sebilius, while the same columnist would trash Sarah Palin for her "death panels" remark (which Paul Krugman has now aligned himself to)
I actually got the opportunity to tell them exactly why I dropped the subscription when they had someone call me to offer an outstanding deal for signing up again. I said "I cant see why you all took a decent magazine and turned personal finance into a partisan topic."
Great tagline BTW.
By government accounting, it’s reducing unemployment as full timers are converted to 29ers and more 29ers are added to cover the work.
Don’t expect the MSM to publicize anything more than the “reducing unemployment” part.
Lots of educated people who are well informed worship obama.
As the jobs get outsourced and people in America don’t have a job, who will buy the product?
When this abomination was passed I tried to tell some ignorant acquaintances what it would actually mean and they looked at me in dismay as if they thought I was out of my mind. Many of them actually believed that free health care would be readily available merely for the asking. Someone has done a masterful job of producing morons in this country.
When I told them that the real result would be no health care for anyone except a very few elite and that people would be fined if they did not buy health insurance which they could not afford they REALLY thought I was nuts.
