That's probably the real cause. He died, and the people in the know couldn't decide what to do. Eventually, the opposition demanded to see Chavez, alive or dead - and mysteriously he "died" the very same day.
If he truly died just a few days ago, his body would be frozen, and then it would be in good condition for a long time. Since it isn't, perhaps it already spent too much time in the freezer. The embalmers instantly saw that.
On the other hand, this is for better. Nobody needs mummies of their idols. They only create problems when the society moves on.
