How long was the Chavez carcass decaying in Caracas before someone had the brilliant idea to pickle him for ‘eternity’? Hugo has been dead a lot longer than admitted and is looking more and more like a rainbow.

Hugo has been dead a lot longer than admitted

That's probably the real cause. He died, and the people in the know couldn't decide what to do. Eventually, the opposition demanded to see Chavez, alive or dead - and mysteriously he "died" the very same day.

If he truly died just a few days ago, his body would be frozen, and then it would be in good condition for a long time. Since it isn't, perhaps it already spent too much time in the freezer. The embalmers instantly saw that.

On the other hand, this is for better. Nobody needs mummies of their idols. They only create problems when the society moves on. Chavez will be buried, as it is appropriate, and the Venezuelan society gets another chance to decide how it wants to live - this time without the overwhelming incumbent, who was a talented speaker. As I understand, Chavez's VP is nowhere that good, and he will lose. The elections will be on April 14, just one month from now.
