Predictable Pope-Smearing Ensues
Townhall.com ^ | March 15, 2013 | Carol Platt Liebau

I am not a Catholic, but I find the concerted efforts to smear various Popes to be disgusting and contemptible.  In the case of Pope Francis, according to the Vatican, anti-clerical left-wing outlets are trying to accuse him -- without any evidence -- of wrongdoing during the reign of a military junta from 1976-1983.

Left-wingers in the United States responded predictably, with Michael Moore tweeting out a picture later revealed as a hoax, purportedly of Pope Francis offering communion to an Argentine dictator (to his credit, Moore issued a correction).

It should be obvious that the attacks have nothing to do with Pope Francis personally.  Rather, they are part of a larger campaign against the Catholic Church, which (notwithstanding its failings) remains as almost the sole remaining, unapologetic exponent of a traditional moral code.  There are those on the left who simply cannot tolerate dissent from their own, self-created moral code, and seek to eliminate the Church as a source of moral authority.  Undermining this Pope -- any Pope -- is just one part of that effort.

But I suspect Pope Francis will be incredibly effective in repelling such attacks, through the force of his obvious goodness and humility.  Accounts of events inside the conclave point out what seem to be his remarkable, genuine humility and obvious love and concern for others -- just what the Church needs now.  Smears and criticisms may (read: will) continue, but as Peggy Noonan observed, this Pope seems to be on a mission to rebuild the Church as a true example of Christ's love in the world; people of all faiths of pure heart can only wish him well in that effort.

Has Michael Moore tweeted any pictures of a Muslim Prophet doing a six year old girl?

Didn’t think so.

To be fair, I don't think they consummated until she was 9. :-)

The media were giddy at the thought of a liberal, reformer pope who would change the church to allow gay marriage, abortion, contraception, and women priests.

As soon as he was elected and they started researching Pope Francis’ background and found that he would do no such thing, the attacks started.

The media’s agenda is so obvious.

I tried to add something to the title, but couldn’t quite come up with something. That would have been perfect, I think

Just wait....the liberals will find something else to attack Pope Francis when their initial salvo fails. Pope Francis will get blamed for:

Buffalo Bills 4 straight Super Bowl losses

The breakup of the Beatles

The failure of New Coke in 1985

Being the “Hand” in Diego Maradona’s “Hand of God” goal in the 1986World Cup

Here's what I posted last Tuesday (quoting myself):

The MSM coverage of the Pope-selection process follows a predictable a script.

1. Dredge up, and re-air every abuse-scandal story — whether based on facts, innuendo, or pure fiction.

2. Interview every “dissident”, nominal “Catholic” they can; to promote the homosexual and “progressive” agenda. Drive home the message that the Church needs to reform, to “keep up with the times”.

3. For the local slant, run stories about the local Cardinals or Bishops, who are considered “front runners” for the job. If they are indeed “front runners”, find and report some “dirt” on them. If the local boys aren’t “front runners”, bloviate about how this proves that the Church is beyond hope.

4. Pull the usual airheads off the sports, fashion, or weather beats to produce vacuous reports about the horse-race, the rituals, and the pomp and circumstance. Make sure we all know more than we ever needed to know about smoke signals.

5. Avoid any substantive reporting — but, give the impression of reporting on substance by treating the selection of the Pope as just another political election. Use a lot of political buzz-words, such as “conservative” (bad), and “progressive” (good).

6. Once the Pope has been selected, round up the usual “dissidents” and “progressives” to tell us what a bad choice this was.

you mean like calling the last pope a nazi because he was forcibly dragged into the hitler jugend and volksturm at the tail end of the war when he was a teenager? when they were drafting boys as young as ten and men as old as eighty to fight the russian hordes.... almost none of the modern-day journ-o-lists have seen a day in uniform and have little to no idea what combat or the military are all about, save for some oliver stone or kubrick movie they saw on cable.

This is almost satire - the MSM vetting the Pope and not the POTUS!!!!!

Why do the atheist press care who is leading the faithful?

Answer: To demoralize Catholics and Christians.

Don't want to sound like a broken record, but...

Now, more than ever, we need to call to mind the words of Archbishop Charles Chaput:

We make a very serious mistake if we rely on media like the New York Times, Newsweek, CNN, or MSNBC for reliable news about religion. These news media simply don’t provide trustworthy information about religious faith—and sometimes they can’t provide it, either because of limited resources or because of their own editorial prejudices. These are secular operations focused on making a profit. They have very little sympathy for the Catholic faith, and quite a lot of aggressive skepticism toward any religious community that claims to preach and teach God’s truth.

Things of the Church reported in the secular media, particularly about the Holy Father, need to be viewed with the most jaundiced eye.

"I am not a Catholic, but I find the concerted efforts to smear various Popes to be disgusting and contemptible."

And well you should. No one should be fooled, either, these are not attacks on the Catholic Church, they're attacks on all of Christianity and Christ Himself. The greatest fear the democrat fascist have is seeing Christians joining together and working together to accomplish what they agree on instead of fighting among themselves. That may not be probable, but as long as it's even possible the anti-Christ democrat crowd will be working to slander and defame all of Christianity into insignificance.

The democrat fascists see the Catholic Church as the international face of Christianity and therefore the easiest target because it's easy to get worldwide attention focused on the Catholic Church. No matter what anyone screams to the contrary, the fascist propaganda machine can make the Catholic Church into all of Christianity when it suits their agenda just as easily as they can make the Catholic Church seem insignificant when that suits their agenda. They want to spread anti-Catholic sentiment then use that sentiment to their advantage just like they've done in the past.

Once they get the sort of reactions they want, they can pass all sorts of limitations on freedom of religion under the guise of protecting Christians from one another, then make lots of anti-Christian propaganda gains by pointing to how Christians are violent and prone to violent infighting. That's why the current crop of atheist propagandists and fascist professors are working hard to portray Christians as exactly the opposite of what Christ and Christianity have always been and just as violent and violence prone as Mooze Lames.

Study history. It was the democrat controlled KKK and other groups who fostered and spread the anti-Catholic lies and propaganda that had non-Catholic Christians attacking Catholics at the turn of the last century. Catholics who the democrat party in large cities then promised to protect from the very riots and violence the democrat machine was causing. They were able to deliver on their promise to protect Catholics, too, just by pulling back their own propagandists and agitators.

That gained them a large and reliable voting block for over 50 years before Catholics began to move away from the democrat party and have now become pretty much half democrat and half anything but democrat. Why would they change tactics that work? Inciting violence against Catholics who have never been more than a quarter of the population worked well at the turn of the century, it worked well in Mexico to keep the majority of the population intimidated and under the thumb of fascist, and the democrat fascists see no reason why they can't make that same approach work for them again.

The goal, though, isn't to defame and slander the Catholic Church. It's the limitations they can put on the First Amendment right to freedom of religion if they can foster violent reactions against Catholics by those who claim they're non-Catholic Christians.

I agree, and is why I get kind of irritated when people expect anything different. They don’t seem to understand there is war going on against Christianity and Judaism. It’s not casual, but dead serious, and part of the master plan to make the government the sole source of all well-being: spiritual, psychological, and physical.

Still, it’s good she wrote the article, I guess.

It’s an attack on any person or group that believes in G-d.
