I saw a movie about the Israelis in exile. the King of Babylon was RAISING the taxes on the Israelis to 10%. This started an insurrection, pitch forks and tar. 10%. I wish we only paid ten percent.
Ten percent tax was mention by Dr. Ben Carson during his speech to the audience at CPAC. He made mention than a very high authority had previously had it written in some great book.
A great speech worth listening to many times over and then doing something about it.

That’s nothing. I’ve read that the colonists’ tax burden leading up to our revolution was no more than one or two percent of total income. Of course, we didn’t go to war over taxes alone. It was more the Brits’ hamhanded response to tax protests. The unpopular new taxes were repealed before war broke out, anyway.
