Ann Coulter berates GOP for their divisions on immigration policy in CPAC speech

Laine Milam

Ann CoulterAs she has done many times before, bestselling author Ann Coulter delivered an uncensored critique of the Republican party at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference. Her criticisms this year were harshest when it came to the party’s current divide on the topic of comprehensive immigration reform.

Following up on her column from last month, Coulter argued that the GOP needs to have a tough but cohesive message on immigration policy, but not the one that many party leaders have touted lately.

“One public policy that will harm average Americans, drive up unemployment permanently, and is supported by businessmen who will never vote for a Republican anyway, is amnesty for illegal aliens,” she said.

She went on to outline the consequences of Republican support for amnesty and how it could lead to the destruction of the conservative movement.

“If amnesty goes through, America becomes California, and no Republican will ever win another national election. The state that gave us Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan will never elect another Republican,” said Coulter.

Coulter’s tough stance on immigration reform helped attendees understand why she could not support a popular figure like Chris Christie, who is pro-amnesty, for president in 2016. She instead offered her thoughts on who the GOP should nominate for the top of the ticket in three years.

“You can’t run a congressman. I have learned that,” she said. “You can’t run a governor from a state that is as big as a congressional district. That’s the equivalent of running a congressman. And we can’t run businessmen, pundits, or candidates who have not won elections in at least midsize states.”

So who does that leave for the ultra-conservative pundit? Options that fit Coulter’s bill included Gov. Brian Sandoval of Nevada, Gov. Susana Martinez of New Mexico, Gov. Rick Snyder of Michigan, Gov. Paul LePage of Maine, Gov. Rick Scott of Florida, Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana, and Gov. John Kasich of Ohio. She was also willing to back the new kid on the block, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas.

I'll keep my soul safe by not displeasing my Heavenly Father by voting for someone who has every intention of supporting the murder of innocents and the abomination(God's definition and classification) of the Gay Agenda.

I'm sure God will be thrilled with you for helping obama get elected and re-elected.

The people who didn't bother showing up to vote were, as best anyone can tell, the old Rockefeller wing of the Presidential Republicans ~ i'm sure you recognize the name.

They are a small faction in politics, but they've still got a good 4 million or so votes and can make a difference.

You might ask why they didn't vote? After all, this is Romney's own father's faction, and you could ask them. All I can see is that some of them are still angry that we ran Goldwater. Others are angry that we didn't run George Romney. Even more of them are PO'd about Reagan edging out Ford in the primaries.

Their problem is that today's Republican party has too many Conservatives for their taste, and they weren't about to let that crowd have influence on the President ~ and not voting for Romney guaranteed that outcome.

I gather you are a Rockefeller Republican ~ so take your problem up with them!

Once you back the japanese Americans in Hawaii out of the equation, most persons of East Asian origin vote Republican in this country.

BTW, in Hawaii the Japanese Americans OWN the Democrat party ~ it's a fambly busness!

Do not continue to be misled by that wholly inadequate 'exit poll' ~ there's simply no way the sample size was large enough to figure out which way the East Asian vote was going.

Your conclusions are in error. That's because your assumptions about the way American political life works are also in error.

The Democrats cannot gain an overall majority for very long without running into the problem of there not being enough political largess to go around. There are only so many seats in Congress, or the Senate, and one President. He only makes about 900 appointments that require Senatorial vetting ~ and the state legislatures are also limited in political opportunity.

As the Democrats grow they end up short changing more and more of their followers ~ and eventually those folks look around for better opportunities elsewhere. That's where THE OTHER PARTY starts looking good!

You might ask when this ever happened and you'd be right to do so. First, Jefferson discovered the phenomenon that you needed to get 50%+1 vote to win an election, and if you could do that you were unstoppable. His new Democratic-Republican party put the Federalists out of business in the first contested election!

Within a few years several minor parties popped up but didn't get a major following because they didn't have popular policies. Finally the Whig party latched onto PUBLIC WORKS and the FEDERAL BUDGET! BINGO!!!!!! That was a major public policy coup. They began winning elections.

The Whigs attempted to hold on to their Southern wing by stepping aside from the slavery issue, and that was their downfall. They collapsed as a national party and a new party made up of Abolitionists and Whigs arose ~ we call it the Republican party.

Over the years since each party has gained and lost large factions, yet no matter how dominant either one has been anywhere in the country for however long, the end result is fairly evenly divided government.

Mathematicians ascribe the permanent split to the single member district ~ just as Jefferson observed 200 years ago.

Democrats might imagine, as you do, that they can create a permanent majority, but it doesn't work that way! Never did.

Health would be the only thing to prevent her from being President. My guess is that she will lay low for a while so she can have some plastic surgery done and lose some weight. 69 isn’t old.

I agree w/ Ann about the Illegal Problem - simple math for more unemployment & welfare, etc!! I have some empathy for the Illegals, but this is far from a perfect world, & we’re on the American Team & cannot live Altruistically in the Past - America 1st for a change, Enforce the Laws, & Protect the Border by getting Our Troops out of the Backyards of Other Countries!! Mexico is in a similar situation as we were back in the 20, 30, & 40’s, & they must gather themselves to Save their once Beautiful Country & People - Tough Love Works!!

Republicans must Man & Woman Up, we cannot wait til 2016, & hardly to 2014... the Time is Now to *Assume the Stature* to do the Right Things w/ illegals, the ‘glbt-perversities’, Benghazi Betrayal, Fast & Furious, Budget Irresponsibilities, & all the rest of the obvious!! The Status Quo will not get it done, too much Compromise of Principles & Acting out of Fear!! God*Speed*America

ah remember the days when we actually followed te law, , we actually had imigration go to bars and arrest illegals, remember when we made the illegals stay in the shadows and shut up.\Remember when left and right could agree that we can;t just let anyone in the country

Today they march in view demanding welfare and rights, demand they be given a new legal status, the left gets with them and goes to AZ etc and sets up water points for the illegals to stop at and get refreshed.

We now also sue states like AZ, FL, SC, AL, which enforce immigration law while ignoring states which ignore immigration law like MA and the rest of the cess socialist pit of the north east.

We now even have talk that we shoudl allow illegal immigrant turd poking homosexuals in and then allow their supposedly other feces poking partner in crime.

One day hopefully and very soon I hope that common sense comes back to this country , the loons on the left with their big mouths and their socialist ways and their shouts of tolerance while being intolerant shut the hell up or they are so shamed like their 1920 progressives were that they go back to hiding in the shadows

It’s not you....it’s her.

I used to love her. However, her butt kissing of RINO’s and vile contempt for us Conservatives as well as the Tea Party, brithers changed that.

She obviously lost A LOT of fans. I believe she is now trying to get us back.

Sorry, I may forgive, but I don’t forget. You’re on your own Annie!

"Righteous bastards who refused to do the courageous thing by turning out and voting against Obama, and instead gagged on Election day, make me sick and angry."

So YOU propose we do the same thing, over and over again and expect a different outcome? YOU are telling US to vote for a lib over a marxist? YOU are telling US to continue to vote for THE LESSER EVIL????

Yes, I did "pull the lever"....again, for the VP, NOT the President. I will NO LONGER be doing so because I have realized I AM PART OF THE PROBLEM.

I will no longer be part of the problem. Instead, I will get more involved and become part of the solution.

"The bottom line is quite simple, our party, our cause, and our country will be doomed if we can’t break the race barrier."

YOU are part of the problem. It is not up to US to break that barrier. The black race has doomed ITSELF. There is nothing we can do to change that.

They are the ones who must change, not us. They call all black conservatives "Uncle Toms".

That is THEIR problem to overcome, NOT ours!

You go Lancey! I cannot believe how many people are absolutely in denial that THEY are part of the problem.

Insanity......doing the same thing over and over and yet expecting different results.

I have seen the error of my ways and will no longer be a part of the problem. I know I owe quite a few apologies.

Nana, I pinged you to this because I know you are one I owe that apology to. I am sorry.

She didn’t berate them for their divisions. What a misleading headline! She berated the ones who are OK with another amnesty and she thinks the 1965 change in the immigration law was disastrous.

The headline writer made her sound like another “let’s all be friends” breast-beater.

She is now a one-issue voter, against amnesty, and that is why she is no longer a Christie fan.

Actually, YOU are the problem. You vote for the “lesser evil”.

Guess what, evil is evil, not matter how great or small.

You apparently would enjoy a long torturous death. Watch what you wish for, you just may get it.

No, God will be thrilled with SCP because she DID NOT sell her soul or principles to a lesser evil.
