Obama says US must shift cars, trucks off of oil

LEMONT, Ill. (AP) — Envisioning cars that can go "coast to coast without using a drop of oil," President Barack Obama on Friday urged Congress to authorize spending $2 billion over the next decade to expand research into electric cars and biofuels to wean automobiles off gasoline.

Obama, expanding on an initiative he addressed in his State of the Union speech last month, said the United States must shift its cars and trucks entirely off oil to avoid perpetual fluctuations in gas prices. Citing policies that already require automakers to increase gas mileage, he said he expects that by the middle of the next decade, Americans will only have to fill up their cars half as often.

"We've set some achievable but ambitious goals," Obama said, speaking at Argonne National Laboratory outside Chicago

"The only way to break this cycle of spiking gas prices — the only way to break that cycle for good — is to shift our cars entirely, our cars and trucks, off oil," the president said.

Friday's speech, with its focus on energy, was designed to draw attention to what the White House says is one of Obama's top agenda items for his second term. That focus, however, has been overshadowed as the administration and Congress work on an immigration overhaul, gun legislation and deficit-reduction measures.

Obama cast his proposal as not only a clean energy plan, but as one meant to create opportunities for economic growth.

"I want the next great job-creating breakthroughs, whether it's in energy or nanotechnology or bio-engineering , I want those breakthroughs to be right here in the United States of America, creating American jobs and maintaining our technological lead," he said.

“Don’t understand why people who can’t make up their mind even bother participating in a poll.”

Perhaps some of them simply don’t trust any reporter to tell them everything they need to know, to make a decision — about anything.

Actually, a case can be made for a government role in funding pure research, in just about any field. At least this is far less bad than outright giving money to failing car companies, in order to prop up their unions.

To expand on the generation problem:

Solar and Wind are not cost-effective. Both require a massive storage infrastructure which does not exist in order to maintain output at a steady level. Further, wind generators have turned out to be far more maintenance-intensive (and therefore costly) than they were originally described to be, and they are also far more environmentally disruptive than originally portrayed, generating massive amounts of infrasound and killing birds at a much higher rate than anyone foresaw.

Coal generation is already on the way out, thanks to Zer0’s anti-coal policies.

NatGas is tied to the world petroleum market, so Zer0 has to either de-link domestic production from all external markets, or it’s not viable either (and doesn’t meet his non-pollution intentions).

Hydro is already on the way out too, thanks to the greenies, not that it ever had the capacity to take over powering the entire US private vehicle fleet.

Lots of new nuke plants would easily do the trick, if the greenies can be convinced to allow them.

I suspect that Zer0 actually prefers that *no* solution be found, so that his dream of a socialist “paradise” a la North Korea can finally be realized in the US.

The gas to gasoline conversion process, that was reported on here recently, could be the answer. That process would take plentiful natural gas and convert it to ordinary motor fuel. The conversion might not cost any more than it costs to compress natural gas, plus the cost of tanks etc. required for CNG.

Let’s see. Obama was a lecturer on Constitutional Law, which he has subverted, perverted and ignored. He gets an “F” grade.

Obama seems to have failed basic economics given that his handouts to cronies/crooks and communists have done nothing to improve the economy of the country. Give him a “F”.

Obama doesn’t know that besides the oil used to make gasoline, a car also uses oil to lubricate the pistons/engine and is used as axle grease to keep the ballbearings from freezing up, etc.

And don’t forget antifreeze, transmission fluid, and brake fluid. Give Dumbo another “F” for car mechanics/maintenance.

He thinks the US has 57 states. He flunks Geography with an “F”.

He funds non-functional or overly expensive “green projects” while destroying our best domestic sources of energy, coal and oil. Give him an “F” for understanding the mechanisms of energy/power, power transmission, pipelines (Keystone), jobs creation, and the fact that no new oil refinery has been built in the US in 30 years, with a couple having had major fires or been down for extended repairs in the past few years.

Give Dumbo another “F” on Economics, Energy Creation, and Industrial Infrastructure issues.

In summation, all Obama’s accomplishments are a just a bunch of fu*king “F’s”.

His whole term in office can be summed up in two letters “OF”. You can figure out what they stand for and it ain’t polite but it’s the truth.

I know the homo has zero mechanical knowledge, but is he so clueless that he thinks even door hinges survive without a touch of the dreaded oil now and then?

I would place big money down on a bet that he could not coherently describe the functioning of an internal combustion engine, spark or diesel.

"United States must shift its cars and trucks entirely off oil to avoid perpetual fluctuations in gas prices."

So, how is it that this excuse/explanation doesn't apply to coal fired power plants? How can this fool expect all that electrical power to come from solar and wind sources?

Nope it’s on purpose. It’s deliberate. He’s wasting money and killing fuel and destroying the economy all at the same time.

Yup. The notion that the President of the United States is deliberately cleaning out what remains of the treasury and crashing the economy is so abhorrent and alien a thought to most people that they push it out of their minds as unthinkable. But that's precisely what's happening folks. Stick down, right into the side of a mountain we go.

Why Obama’s “Energy Security Trust” Is A Bad Idea (another tax)

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2997668/posts

“.What the president proposes is to divert some $2 billion of those oil and gas revenues into a special account over the next decade. Out of this account he proposes to subsidize research on alternative energy sources. ...

... this is a terrible idea — and a backdoor to the imposition of a nationwide carbon tax “

Runs on hay, no oil needed:

I guess this would be "progress" for Obama.

Re “On top of that, plastics, medicines, fertilizer and all sort of things are a product of da evil oil”.

Sh!!! If the EPA finds out about this, we will have no oil, no plastics, no fertilizer, etc.

Sh!! If the dummy, SackofShit, the Secy of Agriculture finds out about this, we will not be able to use fertilizers on crops or insecticides (same for EPA), while forcing farmers to grow subsidized corn for overly expensive Ethanol.

Oh my God. Medicines!! If Obamacare finds out about oil and medicines, they will raise the cost of healthcare so high that no one will be able to afford it. Remember, Obama and Chu wanted to raise the price of gasoline so high that people stopped driving.

In other words, the Obama crew is a bunch of marxist zealots whose only skills are in flimflamming the American people into going back to the Luddite period of the late 1800’s, while allowing the installation by stealth of a totalitarian regime by law and regulation.

Name one past or present Obama cabinet Secretary or Czar who isn’t or wasn’t a Communist/marxist (Dunn, Van Jones, Jackson), a crook (Geithner), a crony or related to any of the three, or just plain crazy (Hansen, Chu, Vilsack, Sebelius, Perez - DOJ).

Almost forgot, those who are totally incompetent - Mabus, Kerry, Hagel, Salazar, Geithner, Gen. Dempsey - JCS), Pistole - ICE; TSA head; Homeland Security - Napolitano; Justice - Holder; etc.

If I were to run for president, it would be on just three things:
1. Strengthening the national defense and getting rid of the asinine/deadly to our troops Rules of Engagement
2. Wipe out most of the Obama regulations and free up the businesses of America to create new jobs and goods.
3. Try all of the above (and others) for crimes ranging from Treason, to Negligent Homicide (re the ROE; ICE; DNS; etc), Crookedness; and Sheer Incompetence.

The jails would be filled as would the graveyards. There is no statute of limitations for TREASON. We owe it to our fallen servicemen and women who have been betrayed in Iraq and Afghanistan, to our Border Patrolmen who have been killed or wounded, to our school children who can’t read, write or do math, and to future generations of Americans whose chances of living in a free society grow dimmer by the day.

Harsh, yes, but the truth! As a journalist I’m devoted to the “truth” and I hope that I have just given it to you.

High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactors (HTGR) that have 50% efficiencies (as opposed to the 30% nuclear reactors have now) would be safer and cheaper to operate. These could produce hydrogen gas using the high temperatures and other processes to separate the hydrogen out of water directly. With cheap hydrogen we could power cars using advanced hydrogen storage technology being developed.

As are the republicans. They should call on obama to tell them where to cut $2,000,000,000 dollars to pay for the research. Then give some of their own ideas about where to cut. The press will have to report it for both reasons. This gets it out to the people that he’d rather have crack hos on welfare than alternative fuel

I’ve been thinking about the anarchists. They wanted to overthrow government because of all the corrupt politicians in power always getting the spoils and not “spreading it around”. I’m about to the point that I agree with them. Their idea was to take it from the rich. My idea is to take it back from the government or stop giving it to them.
