Gohmert: White House Tours Should Be Priority, Not Golf Trips

The decision made by the Obama administration to cancel all White House tours clearly demonstrates an agenda of choosing to punish the American people through politically self-serving maneuvers.

It is not only disappointing, it is discouraging that the Obama administration would willingly choose to shut the doors to the White House, and essentially to this nation’s schoolchildren and families, under the guise of sequestration.

By filing my amendment to the continuing resolution that called on Congress to defund transportation for the president’s golf outings until White House tours resumed, I was not trying to “take away the president’s golf balls.”

My friends Sean Hannity and Eric Bolling, along with Donald Trump, graciously have offered to donate their private money to keep the White House tours alive.

It seems curious that our president has not offered the same, though at the end of 2012, “Obama for America” had $3,301,800 of his campaign cash. To accommodate the offers, I am working on a bill that would authorize the use of private donations to resume White House tours.

In the House of Representatives, we have cut every one of our own budgets by about 11.5 percent in the last two years and are cutting our budgets yet again another 8.5 percent this year, without eliminating constituent services. When our nation is more than $16 trillion dollars in debt, the last thing our commander in chief needs to do is take a million dollar golf trip to Florida with Tiger Woods.

Obama has chosen to ignore the fact that the White House is the Peoples’ House and not his private residence.

But, then, he’s also chosen to ignore the fact that the United States is a republic, and not his private feifdom, so closing the White House to tours should come as no surprise.

American kids were denied access to the WH "b/c of Secret Service" (so sayeth your president)----but he and the Mrs were taking separate vacays w/ SS in tow.

Michelle Obama skied at a posh Aspen resort while Obama was golfing with Tiger Woods in Florida---both had Secret Service teams. Michelle brought a few friends and their daughters to Aspen. They were given all-day private lessons with pro skiers from the Ski and Snowboard School of Aspen.

Mrs O and crew stayed at the home of Aspen Ski Company owners Jim and Paula Crown, who are big Democratic donors. The Secret Serice contingent was so immense it occupied an entire house next door.

Aspen's wealthy regulars were annoyed when air space was blocked because of Mrs O's govt plane----the regular Aspen crowd couldn’t get their private jets down and had to be diverted.

The current annual cost of the White House — just in household expenses, not including US policy operations for which the WH exists--administered by some 900 policy staff recruited by Ohaha) — is $1.4 billion:

Annually, Ohaha vacations cost $20 million (the low estimate for one vacay Ohaha took to Hawaii while Moochelle was skiing Aspen) was $4 million, but the true cost is probably five times that); the first family’s yearly health-care costs are $7 million; more than $6 million is spent on the White House grounds each year. Transporting the president cost $346 million last year.

But as Mrs O whined, "America is basically a downright mean sort of plac," ...... so kid's WH tours will just have to go what with those Repubs forcing sequestration cutbacks on the US.

I'm surprised Mrs O did not wear for the Vogue cover, the pricey diamnod bangles she sported at a DNC fund-raiser last Sept....raised big bucks to keep Mr O in office so he could work for "the poor."

Musta wowed all the "tolerant and compassionate" Dems who hate the rich and support endless govt programs "for the poor."

Family togetherness---that's a laugh. They took separate vacays few weeks ago. Been estimated he's spent some 800 hours golfing. All those shots of him on the greens never show the kiddies and wifey in tow. That's togetherness?

While kids were shut outof the WH supposedly due to Secreat Service cutbacks, the O's teen daughter was spotted in NYC the other night---with girlfriends---dining st the pricey Buddakan, scoffing up rock shrimp, edamame dumplings, short ribs, lobster fried rice........replete w/ five Secret Service guards dining nearby, while students her age were denied access to the people's house.
