Venezuela's Maduro pleads with Obama not to kill rival

Venezuela's caretaker president, Nicolas Maduro, asked Barack Obama to halt a plot to kill the opposition candidate in next month's election.

You see, it's complicated. Maduro - sort of a "Hugo-lite" - announced last week that his government had uncovered an insidious plot to kill Henrique Capriles, leader of the opposition which would be followed by a coup of army officers friendly to America.

Obviously, Maduro is worried that he doesn't have the election in the bag.

From Reuters:

"I call on President Obama - Roger Noriega, Otto Reich, officials at the Pentagon and at the CIA are behind a plan to assassinate the right-wing presidential candidate to create chaos," Maduro said in a TV interview broadcast on Sunday.

Maduro, who is Chavez's preferred successor, said the purpose of the plot was to set off a coup and that his information came from "a very good source."

During his 14 years in power, the charismatic but divisive Chavez, who died March 5 after a two-year battle with cancer, often denounced U.S. plots against him and his "revolution." Critics dismissed those claims as a smokescreen to keep voters focused on a sense of "imperialist" threat.

In kicking off the opposition's campaign in the provinces on Saturday, Capriles said Maduro would be to blame if anything happened to him.

So if the opposition dies under mysterious circumstances, it’s not his fault. He already fingered Obama as the culprit.

Sounds like Maduro is setting up a plan to kill Capriles and then blame it on the US.

Typical of a dictator- NOTHING is his fault, it’s all “other” forces, sometimes sneaky shadow forces and sometimes a particular person (George Bush, Emmanuel Goldstein), who are the cause of all bad things.

Dear Leader is always leading the fight against these evil influences but is never seen taking an active role in governing, or for that matter making any real decisions (sequestration comes to mind).

This approach works, though, or there would not be Chavezes, Castros, Noriegas, and the like. The formula has been polished over generations and once in place works like a charm.

This guy has a lot more faith in the expertise of our CIA and Obama than I do.

A President and a CIA that would screw up a two car funeral is hardly likely to be smart enough to assasinate anyone in Venezuela.

It sounds to me like this guy has plans to kill his opponent and he is already laying the blame for it on someone else.

pleads with Obama not to kill rival...

This plea is not likely to change anything. After all, Ø is looking anywhere outside the US for places to practice - Honduras, Middle-east countries - Lybia, Egypt, and on and on. In the future, the skill set acquired might come in handy.

There was a time in the not too distant past when another dictator to our South went on and on about how the POTUS was trying to assassinate him. Of course, at that time, no one in America believed him either.
...just sayin'

Is that blatant or what?Predicting your political opponent is marked for assasination?I won’t name the quotee(don’t want to lose my breakfast),but believing that theory “would require the willing suspension of disbelief”.

Maduro doesn’t have the brains of a box of rocks but the “CUBANS” do. Make no mistake, the CUBANS will do anything to preserve the flow easy money that supports their dictatorship. They are directing this and they are playing Maduro and “Chavista” for the fools they are!

Is his rival a fetus in the womb?

Obama couldn’t organize a garage sale, much less a political assassination.

“Venezuela’s caretaker president, Nicolas Maduro, asked Barack Obama to halt a plot to kill the opposition candidate in next month’s election.”

The scary part is it might be true. I could see Obutthole wanting to kill the opposition candidate to clear the path for Hugo Jr to take over and keep the socialist dream alive.
