Famed surgeon and Obama critic Ben Carson fires up the Republican base gathered at CPAC.
While Sarah Palin and her Big Gulp stunt generated the most laughs at CPAC, the Conservative Political Action Conference, the event made clear that she is no longer the GOP's rising star. Only five short years after she burst onto the national scene, Palin was overshadowed by those perceived as representing the GOP's best hope at reclaiming the White House. Among them was Florida Sen. Marco Rubio. But there was another rising star who emerged at this year's gathering. Only he's not a politician -- yet: Dr. Benjamin Carson.
Carson is one of the best-known black doctors ever; so well known, in fact, that his life story was the subject of a film starring Academy Award winner Cuba Gooding Jr., titled Gifted Hands. The title refers to Carson's gifts as a surgeon. He became the youngest division head in the history of Johns Hopkins Hospital when he became director of pediatric neurosurgery at age 33.
He is known for executing some of the most groundbreaking surgeries of the last two decades, among them separating two conjoined twins. His rapid ascension followed his graduation from the University of Michigan Medical School and Yale University as an undergraduate. But what makes his accomplishments particularly impressive and compelling is that he grew up in poverty. Carson is the embodiment of the "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" mantra that so many conservatives espouse.
A devout Christian, he has made no secret of some of his socially conservative positions, among them opposing abortion. Though Carson received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President George W. Bush in 2008, it was not until earlier this year that he first began to be considered a political contender.

The Democrat infested media will never allow it.
um no.
After some of his comments on social issues, he is not conservative enough
I doubt a social or fiscal conservative will ever get the Republican nomination again. It’s been 25 years, and it’s going in the opposite direction.
I am not going to vote for anything but a fiscal AND social conservative ever again. EVER.
Everyone always seems to feel the need to put down Sarah Palin, before they pump some other candidate.
No experience, no record, and dubiously conservative? I think not.
I doubt there will ever be a nominee from either major party that isn’t for same-sex marriage. At least in our lifetimes.
The next runaway who will be “Cained” for leaving the plantation.
Then they won’t get my vote.
Palin was great, but every year she gets a little more Obamaized. Standing up there with evidence that she funneled money to leftwing groups was interesting.
If it’s any comfort, they probably don’t care, and are probably even happy about it.
I was flipping through channels just a few minutes ago and stopped on some gay channel where they were badgering a straight guy and suggesting he was really gay because his twin brother is gay.
Then they badgered him to admit the brother is “born gay” even though we all know thats crap. The gay brother even admitted he was abused as a kid (most gay men were from studies I have seen, its the #1 way to make a boy gay -> why they want the Boy Scouts)
There won’t be a Republican president for a long time, if ever. The number of parasites, socialists and idiots have significantly surpassed the number of motivated, responsible, patriotic, moral and thinking Americans who care about the nation. Add to that the establishment RINOs undermining conservatives and the addition of tens of millions of illegals to the voter roles and the GOP is doomed.

Then it MUST be the RIGHT thing to do!
He would last on the presidential contender stage about as long as Cain did.
He would have the MSM, the Dems, the GOPe, and many who don’t think he is conservative enough against him.
Posts in some related threads indicate that he is not pro-2nd Amendment, IIRC. Supporters say he is trainable in that respect. But he is in his early 60s. He is not retrainable on such issues. He may say he is ‘evolving,’ but so have other compassionate conservatives, etc.
His real chances are nil and none.

uh huhh...sure....tell me another story from the tinfoil hat brigade before your meds kick in.
Did you take a look at the author of this piece she is most likely into identity politics, and yes why does everyone knock Palin, because she lives rent free in their heads.
What leftwing groups?

Facts, real facts, show me links, articles, Facts.
you’re posting this liberal rag on FR? and we’re suppose to take it seriously? It lost me after the Palin swipe.
