Argentina slams 'disrespectful' David Cameron for 'daring to rebuff' Pope over Falklands

Argentina has attacked David Cameron for his criticism of the new Pope's stance on the Falklands as the diplomatic dispute over the islands intensifies

"It is striking that the prime minister should dare to rebuff the Pope, " said Alicia Castro, Argentina's ambassador in London, in the latest salvo since the Pontiff was elected.

She was responding to Mr Cameron's comment that he "respectfully" disagreed with Pope Francis, who as cardinal in Buenos Aires said last year that Britain had "usurped" the islands from Argentina. ....

While still a cardinal, the man who is now the new Pontiff had expressed the widely-held view in Argentina that the islands are "ours". Asked about Pope Francis's position on Friday, Mr Cameron said: "I disagree with him respectfully."

Referring to the overwhelming vote in last weekend's referendum by islanders to remain British, Mr Cameron added: "That is a message to everyone in the world that the people have chosen very clearly the future they want. That choice should be respected by everyone."

And with a joking reference to the signal from the Sistine Chapel that a new Pope has been elected, he added: "The white smoke over the Falklands was pretty clear."

But Miss Castro denounced that comment. "He may have thought his remark to be amusing, but it is disrespectful to compare a poll among the 1,513 British inhabitants of the islands - a publicity stunt that has no legal effect - with the election of the head of the Catholic Church that gathers together 1.2 billion people in the entire world," she said in a statement issued by the embassy on Saturday.

The ambassador reiterated long-standing Argentine demands for negotiations on sovereignty of the islands, claiming support of "the rest of the world" for that position.

Argentina should spend more time worrying about what the new Pope has in store for them!

So if the head of the Salvation Army, Church of England or Unitarians said Britain had a legitimate claim to the Falklands the Argentinians would back down? What, they wouldn’t? What’s the difference?

This is why Protestants shouldn’t be allowed to express opinion on the Pope.
When England’s Anglican PM was asked his opinion on Argentinian Pope Francis’ position on the Falklands, maybe he should have said,

“Why don’t we just blame Henry VIII’s libido and move on.”

Rome is still sore about that—almost five centuries later? Just sayin’.

Of course they’re “sore” about an event that robbed them of at least half the Christians on Earth. I’d warrant that Coca-Cola still hates Pepsi and McDonalds still bears Burger King a grudge, too.

This has nothing to do with the Falklands. The Falklands were and are British. Argentina can go to hell on this. They have tried and got their asses kicked. It will happen again if they want to pursue this. It also has nothing to do with fallible personal opinions of Papa Francisco.

Darn tooting sister. 1500 votes for the Falklands to remain British. About 80 votes to elect the Pope. No comparison.

It seems to me, course I could be wrong, but it seems that when ever the media decides that it doesn't like something or someone, they write crap about the subject until it goes away, thus thinking if they keep up their rantings on this new Pope, the Catholic Church and its members will ‘remove’ this person. What these poor,stupid talking heads seem to forget is that this isn't some politician they are talking about, its a religion, and God doesn't care what their opinions are regarding this Pope.
