They need to do something about density. The next big idea is helium gas in drive housings to quadruple capacity but we are running out of that.

HDD has been amazingly resilient vs the Solid State Storage offensive. My only problem with SSD is relatively short lifetime of each bit. My next work computer will be SSD and I’m looking forward to it.

Holographic memory was supposed to be the next best thing. Lots of redundancy in case the medium was damaged.
