MN Legislature Can’t Answer 11-Year-Old’s Question: ‘Which Parent Do I Not Need—My Mom or My Dad?’

Minnesota state legislators considering a same-sex marriage bill for the state did not have an answer to an 11-year-old girl’s question on which parent is not needed.

“Since every child needs a mom and a dad to be born, I don’t think we can change that children need a mom and a dad. I believe God made it that way,” Grace Evans, 11, said before the Minnesota House Committee on Civil Law last week. “I know some disagree, but I want to ask you this question: Which parent do I not need—my mom or my dad?”

She paused for eight seconds as the legislators on the committee sat silent. …

Evans concluded, saying, “I hope that you can see that every child needs a mom and a dad. Please don’t change your law on marriage to say otherwise.” Nevertheless, the House committee voted in favor of the gay marriage bill and sent it to the full House. A similar bill is also before the state Senate. …

Indeed. It seems to me that too many people enter into marriage without putting much thought into what it means to promise yourself to another for a lifetime. Also, I believe too few understand that being in a marriage does require work and sacrifice on the part of both the groom and the bride. Marriage should not be entered into lightly.

You have nailed succinctly the essence of what marriage really is. Thank you.

Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. —Matthew 11:25

It was your pithy comment that inspired me!

As our priest bound our wrists together, he whispered to us “ you do know this is until death”....pause for dramatization.....” and murder is a sin as well” ...wink...,smile..

I'm not sure that anyone really understands what marriage takes, maybe that's why it shouldn't be entered into lightly?

The new wears off, and sexual attraction loses traction within the daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, grind of just living life.

Homosexuals only have their sexuality to stay the course. Sure, I guess, without sex, its easy for a man to get along with a man or a woman to get along with a woman..they think the same. Where is the challenge in that?

A man and a woman must learn how to be a team.

Sometimes I take a rant from my husband - he's had a bad day, the kitchens a mess, and he doesn't mind telling me so. What am I going to do? Invalidate his feelings because, hell, I work too, what do you want, a maid?

Yes, I think those things. But my husband is a man and I am a woman. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I didn’t mention Christianity in particular. That said, I don’t see how anyone can really call oneself conservative and close one’s mind to the Bible, especially when we have a Constitution based largely on the Ten Commandments. The Founding Fathers were adamant that private morality would be the main pillar on which the country stood or fell, and they would not regard anyone that eschewed such morality as a conservative in the US sense.

I noticed that you paraphrased Malachi 2:16, which is not solely Christian of course.

Make that religion and private morality.
Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens.

— George Washington

Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

— John Adams

When I think about it. This homosexual marriage stuff, I know what they want. They want to be accepted. They want their ears tickled. Want it to be all okie dokie, they choose not to listen to that inner voice, they seek the approval of men.
.
When a person has sinned, gone against the Holy Spirit, grieved The Lord, it is a hefty cross to bear. I have a sin that is grievous to me. I did not do that which should have been done, and count on Gods mercy for my salvation.

This is what I think I know about the homosexual. They believe that the inner voice, the spirit that calls them to salvation, will be quieted with the approval of men. They condemn themselves with their effort.

With genetic engineering it is possible to fertilize an egg with the genetic material from another egg.

It’s still very expensive and illegal in many places but in theory ANY two people can reproduce. Even if they have no sex cells at all (due to illness, etc).

Asexual reproduction is also possible by splicing a full set of DNA into an egg. The child would be a “clone”.

We know religion and morality are essential to liberty, but a lot of people aren’t convinced. Liberty is only possible when the vast majority of citizens act morally, but people are less likely to restrain their own impulses when they don’t fear God. How does one maintain order in a society largely composed of immoral nonbelievers? Only by force.

BTW, I’m not saying all unbelievers are bad citizens. Some people have a lot of self discipline and/or were raised with a moral code that largely imitates Christian behavior, but those people are few in number. As a nation, we’re like a car running out of gas. Our Judeo-Christian morality served as gas to create the greatest, freest nation ever known, but the tank is dry and we’re running on fumes.

How else can one explain how such a blatantly disordered and unnatural thing as homosexuality can now be considered on par with normal, natural, viable, and healthy heterosexual relations?

They will only become convinced when the curses get more intense.

Remember that the end time prophecies tell a story of one last captivity. The way things are going, it sure will be the ultimate in “aversion therapy”, to use the leftists’ own language . . .

I think you’re right. Homosexuals want acceptance. I think most of them know—on some level—that they’re doing wrong. How does that work? Well, when a person does wrong, they don’t want to hear about it. That’s why this gay marriage crap doesn’t stop simply at marriage. It won’t stop until they’ve crushed the freedom of association, private property rights, and religious liberty. Why? Not because homosexuals want to be equal. They already have that. No. It’s so they can silence anyone who says what they’re doing is evil, unnatural, and wrong.

They will never achieve what they want.

They may achieve legislation, but they can never legislate respect.

If they win, they still lose.

Deep down, they know this.

There are all sorts of things that can be done, but that misses my point that two lesbians or two homosexuals can’t naturally reproduce. The artifice of man might be enough to thwart the natural order of things, but that doesn’t mean the natural order isn’t still there. It is.

Consider a fire. I could put on enough protective gear to stand in one without being burnt. In much the same way, a homosexual could possibly protect themselves with condoms and an array of drugs. Yet, the fire still exists, and the dangers of sodomy do, too. The fire is the natural order of things, and it will assert itself the instant I’m unable to maintain my protections.

That’s what I’m saying. Homosexuality is disordered. The pieces don’t fit. It’s not viable. I know no way to make it clearer than that. If you think same sex is equal to heterosexual relations (with appropriate technologies to mitigate the harmful effects and genetically engineer children), there’s nothing further to discuss. It’s like telling a blind person the sky is blue.

BTW, a wise person would simply avoid the fire in the first place.

Bible prophecy is always fulfilled. That's how we can know it comes from God. When it says the world will be like Sodom and Gomorrah, it will be. I was kind of hoping we wouldn't reach the point of homosexuals openly parading down main street in my lifetime, but too late. We're already there.

BTW, in case someone thinks I'm a holier than thou Christian, I openly admit to being a sinner. I'm fortunately not burdened by same sex attraction (Thank God!), but I have my own share of sin to regret and repent. I hope for mercy.

The Bible specifically mentions people who were homosexual offenders, but they had repented, were forgiven, and were no longer slaves to that particular sin. I don't consider homosexuality to be any worse than adultery, lying, drunkeness, fornication, or a number of other sins, but homosexuality is unique in that it denies the natural order of things as well as sins against God. An adulterer, for example, is at least engaging in the natural use of his body.

The bottom line is all sinners, including myself, must repent and turn away from their sins in order to get right with God.
