Colo. governor signs slew of restrictive gun laws

DENVER — Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper signed into law Wednesday three sweeping gun-control measures that put the Western state at the forefront of a national movement to restrict firearms in the wake of two mass shootings.

The Democratic governor signed the bills in his office surrounded by Democratic legislators despite a weeks-long campaign waged by gun-rights advocates and Republicans urging him to veto the legislation. Also in attendance was Jane Dougherty, whose sister was killed in the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. in December 2012.

The bills, taking effect July 1, mandate background checks for all private sales and transfers and require gun buyers to pay for those checks. The most hotly contested bill limits ammunition-magazine capacity to 15 rounds, as well as magazines that can be readily converted to 15 rounds.

The bill’s critics say the magazine limit would effectively ban most ammunition magazines and make criminals of people who even hand their magazines to others. At least two county sheriffs have said the ban is impossible to enforce and that they will not enforce it.

I saw no action against real criminals, just law biding gun owners.

Comrade Chickenpooper ignored input form any pro gun groups and his own state Sheriffs. All the Sheriffs have vowed not to enforce the laws.

The idea of renting a remote cabin just doesn’t have the same allure without a little fun gunning.

And Denver will continue to have a serious crime problem.

I've lived in SOUTHWEST Colorado for over 20 years...I've never considered denver as part of Colorado.

I'm on the Western Slope of the Rockies. It's a different state here.

I recall reading the Aurora shooter “converted” to Islam in prison...(maybe that terrorist act was mischaracterized).

I hope you’re correct, but at a cursory level all the state trends look solidly leftward.

The way the ‘rats RAMMED through these laws when they were opposed by the testimonials of the people at the state capital was absolutely disgusting. We outnumbered them 100 to 1, yet they already had their minds made up (Likely by Biden’s visit).

They’ve buried themselves.

“It’s a different state here.”

Unfortunately, the state laws passed by cities apply regardless. And that is a huge trend in America. In Washington state, every vote the state government needs can be found within visual range of the Space Needle. The rest of the state is screwed. In California, you have a great state dominated and controlled by LA & SF.

Those of us wanting to live free rather than as urban wussies are outnumbered by the urban wussies wanting Mommy Government to wipe their butts...
