Colo. governor signs slew of restrictive gun laws

DENVER — Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper signed into law Wednesday three sweeping gun-control measures that put the Western state at the forefront of a national movement to restrict firearms in the wake of two mass shootings.

The Democratic governor signed the bills in his office surrounded by Democratic legislators despite a weeks-long campaign waged by gun-rights advocates and Republicans urging him to veto the legislation. Also in attendance was Jane Dougherty, whose sister was killed in the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. in December 2012.

The bills, taking effect July 1, mandate background checks for all private sales and transfers and require gun buyers to pay for those checks. The most hotly contested bill limits ammunition-magazine capacity to 15 rounds, as well as magazines that can be readily converted to 15 rounds.

The bill’s critics say the magazine limit would effectively ban most ammunition magazines and make criminals of people who even hand their magazines to others. At least two county sheriffs have said the ban is impossible to enforce and that they will not enforce it.

What has happened to Colorado? What a bunch of limp wristed sissies!

California is what happened to Colorado. The morons fled the disaster they created there and then voted in the same type of Socialist politicians when they got to CO.

I wonder if there is any legal recourse for organizations like the NRA to sue to get these gun grabs overturned. IMO, these laws definitely qualify as 'infringement'.

Question for attorneys on this thread: didn't the Heller SCOTUS decision set a fairly high bar in favor of the individual RKBA?

I just cancelled my NRA RANGE DEVELOPMENT COURSE

I urge you to contact the NRA Range Development team and tell them to CANCEL THEIR APRIL COURSE IN DENVER due to the blatant unconstitutional laws that the CO government just signed.

I would have spent not only the $500 for the course, but over $1000.00 in hotel and travel, plus several hundred in food, and several thousand in drinks, guns, ammo, and lap dances ;)

Please call NRA, start a Facebook page, whatever it takes and get the NRA to cancel their conference....NO MONEY FOR GUN-GRABBING STATES!

Unfortunately, the state laws passed by cities apply regardless.

Doesn't mean you have lock-step follow them.

I've lived in large cities. Now I live in a town of 2300. I like it and so does everyone else. It's called Ignacio, CO.

It is time to target and slaughter the Colorado tourism industry. Leave them without money and jobs.

I’m thinking about founding The Curmudgeon Party, and running for office under the slogan, “This is bullshit.”

Colorado just passed a bunch of anti-gun laws that CT already had on the books prior to the Sandyhook shootings.

I’m sure Colorado criminals will all leave Colorado now.

Will such organizations have "standing"?

One of our daughters was passionately looking forward to moving to Colorado. Watching these gun laws passed, she is now vowing “no way!”...

Any bets on how long it will take for crime to go through the roof in CO?
