Biden on assault weapons ban: "Think about Newtown"
CBSNews.com ^ | 3/21/2013 | LUCY MADISON

Posted on 03/21/2013 11:25:43 AM PDT by South40

"Three months ago, a deranged man walked into Sandy Hook Elementary with a weapon of war," he said. "Let's get this straight. This is not about anybody's constitutional right to own a weapon. For all those who say we shouldn't and can't ban assault weapons - for all those who say the politics is too hard, how can they say that?... When you take a look at those 20 beautiful babies and what happened to them? And those six teachers and administrators?"

select fire AR-15s.

I got that but they are not the same as the post 72 AR’s at all. They changed the internal parts and pin locations so that the select fire and the semi auto parts can not be interchanged between receivers.
There has never been an AR sold on the civilian market that I know of that is select fire. Very few of them were sold that the parts would interchange either.

So, which is it?

Update on the IRJ site: Editorial note: Update - State Police Confrim Weapons Used in Newtown Shootings

So the "clarification" states that both a Bushmaster .223 caliber rifle and two handguns were seized from Lanza's dead body in the school, but the "clarification" did not state if the rifle was used exclusively in the shootings or a combination of rifle and handguns.

Law abiding gun owners in Newtown want politicians and gun-grabbers to STOP exploiting the tragedy.

I don’t care how many kids were killed. I don’t care if banning normal capacity magazine WOULD prevent future mass murders. I’m not giving up any of my Second Amendment right because of Newton, any more than I would give up my First Amendment Rights because someone might get their feelings hurt and commit suicide.

Freedom - its worth a little risk, doncha think?

Let me just stop you right there.

As they well should. It is a disgusting act, but one in which liberals are apparently proud to take part.

Remember Crazy Joe Biden also attempted to exploit the recent training accident that killed 8 Marines as a half-baked attempt on his part of condemning the sequester he, his boss and the leftist media are trying to pin on Republicans. These people have no shame.

I don't think that is totally true. I usually don't like giving libs info about this on open forums but many can be made to be select fire. It takes some work. Basically these steps are made... you change to a M-16 hammer that has a notch to engage the sear or drop in auto-sear that is also to be installed. Also ensure the lower can accept the auto sear to be fitted. And change out the select-fire switch (safety detent) from the straight semi-auto version one to the one that has a notch in it.

You may also have to change out the bolt carrier if you have a Colt AR15 since they installed ones that would not work to trip the auto-sear. However, many companies already install the M-16 type bolt carrier assembly. A competent gunsmith could make AR-15s to select fire.

There has never been an AR sold on the civilian market that I know of that is select fire. Very few of them were sold that the parts would interchange either.

If it was made before 1986 you could buy an AR15/M16 full auto version. They sell for a premium price, and you pay the $200 tax and wait for a long background check, which they stretch out.

>> “ So yes, it is curious why someone who believed that about her son would leave weapons within his reach.” <<

.
I’m not son sure that we have any reliable evidence that she did that. The fact that she’s dead at his hand casts doubt on that scenario.

Fair enough. It is rather convenient that she isn’t around to defend herself.

Had he been able to simply take the guns, I don’t believe there would have been any altercation between them.

So why do your police need to carry those same weapons of war?

Why do they need M4’s with Holographic sights and 30rnd magazines ?

Assuming he did in fact shoot up a school he may have shot his mother to get at the guns. But that's neither here nor there as we have no sure way of ever knowing.

"I would never own a fully automatic rifle because doing so has been illegal since 1934."

Full auto weapons are perfectly legal in 37 states.

NBC was wrong as were others then. I heard the coroner after he examined the bodies and he described the bullets and that they came from that AR-15 and no other weapon. Where this got screwed up in reporting, was, there was a report a rifle was in his car, so a reporter or reporters assumed that was the AR-15 and he only used a hand gun to shoot. There was another rifle in the car but it wasn't an AR-15 and was never used in that school. The killer shot himself with a handgun.

you are right and wrong in this. I should have qualified that in this area there are no full auto black guns around. They have been illegal for decades.
There is a difference in all of the newer AR and M-16 receivers but I’ll send that in private.

Thanks

If you milled a lower receiver you can. However, I mentioned above about a Drop in Auto Sear, which I should have placed more emphasis. See video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdR7rEuLrvE

From the youtube video description - verbatim in quotes:

Which "they are an excellent investment and can legally turn any AR15 into a select fire "M16" here in the good ol' USA. "

The legal ones are registered so they sell for a premium.

And for people wondering about this statement. I like the idea that libs and even guys from on our side who believe that full auto weapons are completely illegal in the US, which is not the truth. I don't want to give the liberal fruits and nuts any new ideas they can try (demonize) even if it's just a posting on FR.
