The National Rifle Association today filed a federal lawsuit against New York Gov. Mario Cuomo, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and other officials, seeking injunctive relief from the states Secure Ammunition and Firearms (SAFE) Act.
This was the law for which Olympic Arms in Lacey announced in February that it would no longer do business with agencies in New York State. Its the kind of law anti-gunners would like to see enacted in Washington and Oregon as sensible or reasonable. It limits magazine capacity to seven rounds, requires background checks for ammunition purchases, and requires that retailers report large ammunition sales to the police.

With McDonald and incorporation, they ought to go after the Sullivan Act too.
The article should say Governor Andrew M. Cuomo (not Mario).

NRA & NYSRPA Defending the Second Amendment Rights of Law-Abiding New Yorkers
Fairfax, Va. Today the National Rifle Association joined the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association in filing a complaint against the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Act in the United States District Court for the Western District of New York.
The National Rifle Association is committed to defending the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding New Yorkers, said Chris W. Cox, executive director of NRAs Institute for Legislative Action. Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature usurped the legislative and democratic process in passing these extreme anti-gun measures with no committee hearings and no public input. This obvious disrespect for New Yorkers and their Second Amendment rights will not be tolerated.
The New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Act threatens severe penalties for previously lawful activities, including acquiring certain commonly owned firearms, ammunition magazines and ammunition. It lowers New York’s arbitrary magazine capacity limit from ten rounds to seven. It also greatly expands the state’s existing ban on commonly owned semi-automatic firearms, and will require New York gun owners to undergo background checks on ammunition purchases.
The NRA will defend the right of law-abiding New Yorkers to Keep and Bear Arms under the Second Amendment, added Cox, Despite the wishes of Governor Cuomo, law-abiding citizens have a fundamental right to keep commonly possessed firearms for defense of themselves and their families and for other lawful purposes including the enjoyment of New Yorks rich hunting and sporting heritage.

Does anyone know if the NRA plans legal or other challenges to the Colorado laws?
That is a pretty safe bet.
Not one of these idiot laws will go unchallenged.
Instead of the stupid “seven rounds” magazine bit, why don’t they say MAKES ‘ILLEGAL’ EVERY GUN DESIGNED IN THE LAST 102 YEARS?
If someone had pointed out the classic 1911 contains 7 rounds, I’m sure they would have dropped the limit to 6 rounds. I may have missed it, but I didn’t see if this law covered the multitude of revolvers having 7-10 rounds or if it covered speed loaders.
Is that anything 105mm or larger?
This Freeper has upped to a NRA Endowment member, joined Gun Owners of America and The Texas State Rifle Association as a life member and donated to the NRA-ILA (the NRA PAC). I have also brought in, at my expense, four other NRA members.
I have also bought dangerous weapons for grand kids, Ruger 10/22’s that look a lot like the dreaded AR-15, complete with 25 round magazines (BX-25)and adjustable stocks. I also bought them tickets to Appleseed’s to teach them how to use the guns.
BTW, I regularly contribute to the Free Republic funds and was an early supporter of Ted Cruz with donations to his campaigns...
I am on a fixed income retirement that means if I spend on one thing I skip something else.
I’m guessing they went to 7 rounds to eliminate the otherwise hard-to-ban M1 Garand.
I suspected that as well. The left has only recently begun to be concerned about the proliferation of M1 rifles. As well they should be. If it ever came down to brass tacks, citizens armed with M1s would give black-armored ninjas armed with poodle shooters a nasty shock.
Thank you for your dedication to our gun rights - but I was addressing that to (only) those here that slam the NRA on a regular basis as being sell-outs.
They know who they are.
As they became old enough the grandsons complete the NRA Eddie Eagle Safety Program.
I'm also a life GOA member.
All patriots should join both organizations.

I was aware and in agreement with your purpose... I wanted to present an example of one Freeper putting money and support where heart is...
