LANSING, Mich. (AP) — The GOP-led Michigan Senate adjourned Thursday without voting to partner with the federal government on an online health insurance marketplace, rejecting Gov. Rick Snyder’s plan to spend a $31 million federal grant implementing a key component of the U.S. health care overhaul.

The Republican governor said it was the last day to act because lawmakers are taking a two-week break, and Michigan will miss a deadline to submit a consumer assistance plan for the exchange without being able to spend the federal money.

Ignoring the point of the article, why are we fine with, “are taking a two-week break?”

I don’t get to take a two week break. I hate politicians.

WJ, I don’t know if you are a Michigander, but I am sure “cripplecreek” will chime in, their have been discussions in the political arena about a part time legislature so maybe these vacations would go away if it became a reality...

I’m sure that, uh, that, uh, the break is there for the representatives to meet with their constituents in their local districts. Yeah, that’s it, that’s that ticket.

I believe they simply adjourned without touching it.

Heck, I want them to take about 40 weeks of break per year.

"Michigan Senate rejects parnering on health exchange"

"parnering"?

Is that something new in Obamacare we're going to have to worry about? And, how much is it going to cost us?

Most state legislatures are part-time. Here in Florida, they are not in session all that often. The legislators get paid $29,687 per year for about 60 days of session, plus $133 per day as a per diem to cover meals and travel expenses. I know most of us would love to have a job where we make $30K plus expenses for 12 weeks of work, but remember that many of these guys are lawyers/doctors, etc., and they’re working in the capitol instead of at their regular jobs.

I’d prefer that the idiots in Washington cut down to 3 months of work and cut their salaries to $50,000 per year. That would help to prevent some of the career politicians that we have now.

Ours are term limited now which helps but it also means keeping an eye out for RINOs seeking higher office.

“Snyder spokesman Kurt Weiss said the state will be forced to spend $8 million of its own money to link computer systems to the federal exchange.”

Once again, Snyder's administration is lying about Obamacare! When the US Supreme Court ruled Obamacare’s penalties a “tax” the Court also ruled the Federal Government could not force the States to provide Medicare to its citizens!

In other words, the State of Michigan does not have spend a single dime on Obamacare, that is why so many States are opting out of socialized health care!

Snyder used this lie to get the Michigan House of Representatives on board and they did in fact approve spending 31 million federal tax dollars to set up Obamacare health exchanges, the Michigan Senate did not buy this BS and shot it down!

Thank God!

It' a cross between "partnering" and "pandering", an obvious choice for a politician.

I can't help with to think with the Hospital Mergers in "Detwaa" and the desired changes to BCN, that Snyder is or was looking at this as an internal "Jobs" program here in Michigan.

We think this all sucks, but that is where ( and other places ) we part company with Gov. Snyder...

I’ve been out of the loop here, can you elaborate on the changes to BCN?

Wasn’t their the move to take it out of non-profit status and didn’t the Sibilius Mandate get intertwined in that and it all got nixed?

The Latest from Dr. David Janda...

"Friends,

This just in..... Freedom 1...... Fascists, Obama, Governerd Rick " Jennifer" Snyder a BIG ZERO. The unthinkable just happened...... the people spoke ..... and spoke loudly and stopped the fascist train engineered by Obama and Governerd in Michigan. Health Care Exchanges have been stopped in Michigan in The Senate.

Let's give credit where credit is due..... the PEOPLE of Michigan who jammed the phone lines and Internet and told their legislature what to do, Senator Pat Colbeck who lead the charge in The Senate, all of the Senators who turned their back on thousands of dollars of whore money from insurance, HMO and pharmaceutical companies, The Tea Party and Operation Freedom Fighters.

It is a testament to the Power of the People and the failure of the Freedom stripping fascists."
