University Apologizes for Stomping Jesus

Florida Atlantic University has issued an apology for a classroom assignment that involving students writing the name “Jesus” on a sheet of paper and then stomping on the paper. The university also said the lesson will never again be used.

“We sincerely apologize for any offense this has caused,” the university said in a prepared statement. “Florida Atlantic University respects all religions and welcomes people of all faiths, backgrounds and beliefs.”

The university initially defended the Christ-bashing lesson which is included textbook titled, “Intercultural Communication: A Contextual Approach, 5th Edition.”

Fox News obtained a synopsis of the lesson taught by Deandre Poole, who also happens to be vice chair of the Palm Beach County Democratic Party.

“Have the students write the name JESUS in big letters on a piece of paper,” the lesson reads. “Ask the students to stand up and put the paper on the floor in front of them with the name facing up. Ask the students to think about it for a moment. After a brief period of silence instruct them to step on the paper. Most will hesitate. Ask why they can’t step on the paper. Discuss the importance of symbols in culture.”

Ryan Rotela, a devout Mormon, was in the classroom and refused to participate — telling television station WPEC that the assignment was insulting and offensive.

I think it is fine to testify in the way this young man did, and it is bringing results.

I just think it puts people off a bit, as to the truth, when we become heavy handed in belief or convictions ourselves.

I know it is ironic.
This “perfessor” crossed the line and became biased in teaching that we should not be biased.
Then his superiors backed him up which showed that the bias was “institutionalized”

All this, in the name of freedom of thought.

Truth is, the public schools and gov have no proper place in indoctrination other than reading writing and arithmetic.

This was a college that the kid signed up for, and the course was to challenge group think.
The course professor failed in teaching the curriculum, the School failed in its pursuit of free thinking.

Set aside all religious beliefs.
This kid got scammed and persecuted wrongly.

The school is a false school.

The Topic is this school being disingenuous.
The Topic was not about beating Mormons, Baptist’s, Catholics or Muslims.

My 1960’s high school degree from a Baltimore County, MD high school
Is worth more than a doctorate from Howard.
By far.

Now I am talking in circles. LOL

Bah!!

Bullys are bullys and wimps are wimps

This kid was no bully and he was no wimp.
The School demonstrated BOTH.

Yes, I posted previously about the chilling and uncanny resemblance to ”That Hideous Strength”. Your analysis makes sense re separating the sheep from the goats. And fits into the.concept of the Delphi Principle that I was just reading about on FR.

The old “act in haste repent in leisure” syndrome of the Left.

Or, as the RATs are wont to say:

It's easier to beg forgiveness than to ask permission.

Verbally renouncing Christ has eternal consequences. Trampling pieces of wood doesn’t.

I will say this, our colleges are a better forum for this sort of thing than laying complex thought on 5 year old children.

This student was mature enough and confident enough to win this battle.

Good for him.

I often am stunned that we try to teach 5 year olds complex thinking in public schools and find that the instructors are have little more forethought than 5 year olds.

This clown ass instructor was supposed to be teaching independent thought and he ended up being a non thinking tyrant.
His Superiors demonstrated that they were non thinking rigid group think aholes too.

You should be thanking this heathen bastard for standing up for Jesus.

Now we can only assume you are siding with the “perfesser”.

I feel sorry for the Christian students who cooperated rather than stand up to the pressure. I’d feel really disappointed in myself in hindsight, if I cooperated with that order of hate and did not stand up with that Mormon student.

Human nature being what it is, most people will succumb to the peer pressure. The professor knew that when he developed the lesson. My guess is he wanted to break the ice so in the future kids would feel its proper to condemn Christians and Jesus.

part of the indoctrination.

That was just the dilemma portrayed in this excellent, psychologically deep and historically accurate novel, Silence. These were agonizing questions: did trampling the fumie silently symbolize the rejection of Christ? If one did it only as a way to deceive the police, was one guilty of treason to Christ, or of deception (lying)? Was it best to refuse, and then inspire others by one's steadfast witness or martyrdom? Or would one's death by torture discourage other beleivers and cause them to apostatize too?

I really recommend this novel. It has a difficult and highly paradoxical ending.

Historically, this ended up in the almost total eradication of Christian communities in 17th century Japan.

Actually that is the seed of a wonderful idea. Anytime a University has to admit they hired an idiot to do damage to paying students the cost of the course should be refunded, the idiot fired and the kids given a A in the class. After all, we should encourage “the children” to recognize predators in their midst and take them down.
