No, I’m not thrilled either. Bad choices often lead to bad results. Ultimate bad result in this case. But I’m not excusing what they did.
Armed robbery is only considered a goofball prank in CA and some NE states. In other states it’s considered armed robbery.

That’s truly an excellent point, and your comment made me realize I got caught up in it. “It” meaning the most concise description is diluted by “they were teenagers”, and, the downplaying of the fact that the kids (there I go) were from OK but were doing their deed in TX. Was it just a scenic drive they were on? Did the firearms just kind of leap into their hands?

I understand what you were thinking though. It's very hard to think of a kid as a mortal threat to be dealt with as a mortal threat. But a gun changes everything. Older children are also quite capable of forming malicious intent too so they can be dangerous even without a firearm. They are capable of evil.
