And in the last two months... (Dec. 2012 and Jan. 2013)
Americans Buy Enough Guns in Last Two Months to Outfit the Entire Chinese and Indian Armies

West Bend - Bob Pucci wheels his motorized scooter through the Washington County Fair Park Pavilion, passing rows of tables filled with handguns, shotguns, semiautomatic rifles and pistols, knives, antique firearms, ammo, scopes, exploding targets and emergency food.
The dealers know him well. So do a lot of the customers. And sheepish kids come up and ask Pucci if they can play with his 3½-year-old black Labrador, Rocco 2, who has the run of the place.
For more than 20 years, through good economic times and bad, Pucci's Bob and Rocco Gun Shows have been staged across Wisconsin.
And business has never been better.
"It has been absolutely crazy," Pucci says.
Buyers have been rushing to gun shows across the country in the wake of high-profile mass shootings and potential congressional action - under the prodding of President Barack Obama - to tighten the nation's gun laws. There has been a focus on toughening background checks, extending them to gun shows and private sales.

Why the barf alert? This sounds like one of the most apolitical gun show articles I’ve read from the MSM
I find the "barf alert" one of the most loathsome habits around here. It encourages people to make the problem of "not reading the article" even worse.
And I suspect the original poster didn't read the article before adding the barf alert, based on the premise that it's an article on gun shows from a MSM source, therefore it must be terrible.
The article actually points out that very few guns in crimes are sold at gun shows.
--If toughened background checks are passed, he says "six months later, it's not going to be a big deal." --
—see post #4—and the “original poster” even read it to the last line and read the comments—
Go to gun shows to find a new gun chambered for some odd ammo you can still find.
I have heard of and seen many private sales from private individuals at gun shows and homes. I have sold a couple myself. But unlicensed dealers? Never heard of them.
Gun Shows were great before the internet.
Now days they are a market place for the “ammo dealers” who are buying up every 22LR the minute it becomes available. With their 300% to 400% mark up they are making lots of money.
I refuse to feed the beast.
I’m from the area, but not familiar with the writers past work and leanings. The article seems fair but very brief.
The show promoter, Bob Pucci is a local celebrity, along with his dog Rocco, and he does run a very tight ship! He is very approachable. There would be no better source for an in-depth article on gun shows than Bob. Media will quote one or two lines from him, but they are afraid of exposing the truth about gun shows with an in-depth article because it does not support the position they generally relay.
“See ya at the show.”
“”But there are unlicensed dealers, too,...”

Good point!
I agree about the ammo for sure. A buddy just told me they were charging $90 for a brick of .22 LR.
I don’t go to gun shows. They were a rip off even before the great panic of 2012. The last time I went to a gun show was about 2 years ago. I could not believe how inflated the prices were. I ended up buying one reasonably priced steel AK mag. No way I would waste my time going there now. However, if other people want to go, more power to them. With gun and ammo virtually not available elsewhere, I suppose it’s the only option you if you need something now.
You’ll be hard pressed to find a more enjoyable show than a Bob & Rocco show. And Rocco (I remember Rocco the First) is the reason I refer to black labs as “the regulation Wisconsin gun show dog”.
I can see where this is heading, and I for one refuse to play the scapegoat role of an Armenian Jewish Kulak.
From my cold dead hands, statist Obama worshippers! You can take my carbine when I'm done with the bullets.
Make no mistake - gun shows are not just hated by the left because of private firearms sales, but also because they're gatherings of like-minded people... few of whom have much use for an intrusive government.

I hope other people start sponsoring “no dealer” gun shows like the one that was pretty well “snowed out” in Pinetop-Lakeside Arizona.
That was frustrating, because there was anticipated to be a huge crowd, but the snow was between them and the show.
The idea is a good one, of just private sellers and buyers, with government people politely requested to not attend, as it is none of their business.
I think the author did a good job balancing out the article with both viewpoints. No need for a barf alert, in my opinion.
