I recently retired from DHS and the agency still issues 9mm ammunition to a large number of agents and officers. Many carry the Sig Sauer 226 that uses the 9mm round. These guns are carried as either back up weapons or as a primary depending on the position occupied by the officer/ agent. Most everyone else carries the Sig Sauer 229 that uses the 40 S&W round. Before I left the agency I was a supervisor and signed for some very large amounts of ammunition that was delivered to the field office. Most of it was 40 S&W. I also signed for large amounts of 223, 9mm and shotgun ammo. I think that everyone should contact their elected representatives and demand an answer as to why so much ammunition is needed. I personally beleive it is designed to create a shortage of ammunition. Just another form of gun control from Obammie and company.

There are probably 5000 government employees per day retiring on government tax paid lottery style government pensions.

Oh sure, I'll compose a letter right now, and send it to D.C....I'm sure they'll all be very concerned and jump right on it....gak..

That's the funniest damn thing I've heard in the last 2 hours.

Thanks for weighing in. There has been a lot of speculation, but little hard data, on the degree to which the 1.6 billion-plus round DHS ammo buys are excessive. Can you help with the math? How many rounds does the typical DHS agent fire in a year for training and qualification? How many law enforcement agents would be using this ammo for training and qualification?
