And we now have tribal politics where people vote on the basis of race, ethnicity, and gender. Performance no longer matters. The reelection of Obama defied the normal laws of political gravity.

And by 2050, one in 5 residents of the U.S. will be foreign-born. If you don't think that this has electoral consequences, you are living on a different planet.
