For La Salle, a Calming Influence at the End of the Bench

--SNIP-- What is a Christian Brother, you may ask. Brother Ed explains: St. John the Baptist de La Salle, the patron saint of teachers, created the order in the 17th century to educate children, especially the poor. To join the order, Brother Ed took vows of chastity, poverty, obedience, stability (he would remain a Brother) and association (he would associate with other Brothers to teach). La Salle, in Philadelphia, is one of six Christian Brothers colleges in the United States, according to Brother Ed. (Another is St. Mary’s College, which lost in the first round of the tournament.)

LaSalle and Gulf Coast will attract a lot of support because they are such ‘underdogs.’ Brother Ed is LaSalle’s secret weapon.

LOL - a lot of brackets exploded when FGCU beat Georgetown and then San Diego State. A huge national DOH!

I was wondering if there’s anyone, anywhere in the world, that LV will have to pay off after that. Count me among those who never even heard of the college.

However improbable it seems to me, I am sure that someone probably won money betting FGCU against Georgetown and SDS. But the greater improbability is that someone has FGCU beating both Georgetown and SDS in bracket picks. But who knows, there might be that one person out there who will get it perfect. It just won’t be me. Out of 48 games I have 16 losses and 32 wins. That’s hardly outstanding.

oh, I know enough people who despise G’town enough to bet on anyone who they’d be playing. I’m not too sure that same contingent has a gripe vs. SD. There are likely those who despise SD as well, But these rivalries tend to be geographical and it’s a long way from Georgetown to SD.

I couldn't bet against a team just because I disliked them. I would lose my money and be even madder!

From the article: "Brother Ed is believed to be the first Christian Brother to have his own bobblehead doll."

For whatever reason there are folks who really totally despise G’town, Duke and Notre Dame, and would not care in the least about losing their $. Odd to me, but it’s beyond dislike. On the other hand, each of those schools has its own cult following as well. So I guess it balances out.
