Autism is real; in my experience the “spectrum” is a scam. A couple I know has a son (an only child) who is completely normal; they claim he is “on the autism spectrum”, but can’t elaborate on any symptoms. When you watch the child play with others the only thing that makes him different from others is that he obvously doesn’t have siblings; consideration of others and sharing are alien to him. He’ll do it, but it is obviously a foreign concept - he isn’t accustomed to playing with other children. He is normal in EVERY OTHER WAY (and very normal for an only child).

The claims that over 2% of children born today are “on the autism spectrum” should set off red flags for everyone; people are happy to have an excuse when their children show signs of being raised by television several hours a day, often with only one parent.

Sheriff's deputies searching for suspect in child sex assault

El Paso County sheriff's deputies are searching for a Peyton man accused of trying to coax a young girl to learn about sex by doling out $100 bills from a cash box he kept at his bedside.
Ronald Dean Stanley, 59, was arrested more than a year ago but is being sought anew since missing a Feb. 7 court hearing.
El Paso County sheriff's spokeswoman Lt. Lari Sevene said Stanley was expected to plead guilty to sex charges related to the girl's abuse and separate allegations that he possessed child pornography.
According to court documents, Stanley was arrested Feb. 11, 2010, after the girl's parents reported the abuse to the sheriff's office.
