UKIP leader Nigel Farage speaks out about immigration in Peterborough

UKIP leader Nigel Farage told a packed public meeting on Monday in Suffolk that he was flabbergasted at the immigration problems in Peterborough.

Speaking to Paul Stainton on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire on Tuesday, he bemoaned a sense of “emnity” that he felt had developed in the city in the last ten years, which he attributed to the high level of immigration.

Mr Farage said: “I was amazed to see the sort of Polish quarter of the town, and to see the size of it, it’s rapid development, and how few people spoke English.

“But the worst thing was a sense of enmity that has grown up between much of the local population and the large numbers of Polish people living there.

“I think people get on together less well in Peterborough than they did ten years ago.

“We have since the war had a managed migration policy into Britain of thirty to fifty thousand people a year. Over the last ten years it’s averaged half a million people a year.

“You cannot assimilate new groups in society if they’re coming in at that level.”

The UKIP leader said that British people were being discriminated against in the workplace.

He said: “I met a 16 year old girl in Peterborough who applied for a job on a packing line and was told she couldn’t get a job because she didn’t speak Polish. I’m sorry but that simply isn’t right.”

Mr Farage believes the forthcoming county council elections will mark a pivotal moment in the evolution of his party.

He said: “I think May 2 is very important. It will really show across the whole of England whether this rise in the polls is fictional or real. I believe it is real.

The surge continues to UKIP. Up and down the country Tories are defecting to UKIP. In my life I have never seen such enthusiasm for a political party. People have had enough. The words he speaks are no exaggeration, you honestly have to see it to believe it. The UK has become a dumping ground for eastern europe and these mad men want to let other countries and even Turkey in!

Enoch Powell was right.

UKIP and Farange are one of the few bright lights in a very dark world right now.

Didn’t Jack Straw let the cat out of the bag about immigration? Said Labour wanted to change the demographics of the country to make it multi-culty?

Why pick on Christian Poles, they aren’t the problem.

Especially considering how the Polish pilots of the 303rd saved their bacon during the Battle of Britain only to be sold out to Uncle Joe in the end.

There you go. There's a reason for you. Amazingly enough it was right there in the article. I can't think why you didn't see it.

The Poles are very welcome - but they have to speak English and they have to come as guests, not as invaders. Don't you have similar issues in the US?

That doesn’t make sense. I think you’ll find as well, the feeling of appreciation is probably mutual between Poles and Brits being as it was us that made a stand on their behalf.

Regardless of which, it doesn’t give them a free ticket to the UK, there simply isn’t enough room, we are not picking on them, as Nigel Farage says, we don’t dislike them, we want to be part of Europe, not ruled by it, and with open borders. We can’t just let people in because their country has a lot of Christians in it. Plenty of Mexicans are Catholic, is that representative of the Mexicans that have made their way into America?

I’m afraid to say a lot of the Poles and Eastern Europeans have bought over a lot of crime and gang activity. It has been a disaster for the UK.

He certainly is. I so hope he gets in on the debates for 2015. He will wipe the floor with the others.

Yep. The past government and this government have engaged in policies of what can only be described as treason.

Fair enough, they need to encourage people to adapt, and speak the native language. And it is true that most Poles go to the UK to make some money and then ultimately return to Poland, so the question is, do they plan to assimilate or not? Most Mexicans that come here do not have any plans to return to Mexico. But Poles may wind up proving to be a critical ally in the fight against the real enemy, so I question if they should be the primary targets of the UKIP's legitimate beefs with immigration policy.

Disgusting. I lived in the UK for several years in the 90’s when Blair came to power.

But its not a target, UKIP has never targeted one specific nation.....it is about more than that. It just so happens, it was relevant to the community he was speaking to.

Where abouts did you live if you don’t mind me asking? Yeah, he road in on a wave of hysteria and wrapped himself in the flag, but everything he did has transformed the country drastically for the worse.

I can only predict this.....if France or Italy start to falter - in a massive way - the EU will bring in Turkey faster than you can say “kebab”.

Even Merkel is now onboard with bringing Turkey into the EU proper, and it’s long been UK and US policy.

I suppose if the Greeks complain, and I assume they’ll grumble about it, they’ll be told, “Sure....when your economy is performing as well as Turkey’s, then you can pipe up. Until then, SDASTFU.”

Turkey will be in the EU by 2020 at the absolute latest.

Since I believe the Eurocrats will chose the worst option always, I agree that Turkey probably will be a member of the EU by 2020 (if the EU still exists by then, which is not a given).

However, I don't understand why you think a financial crash in Italy and/or France will hasten Turkey´s accession. Care to explain?

Provided the EU is still around come 2020, and that’s a big “if”.

As to why, they have to replace that lost money. Turkey has been economically on the rise, and its standard of living has certainly improved. Their banking sector is pretty solid, and seems to have weathered the financial crisis for the most part in decent shape. Maybe they just didn’t make bad investments like so many banks in the EU did.

Additionally, the population in the EU is aging rapidly while declining. They’ll need more serfs.....oops; make that “workers”.

No kidding Nigel. But never the less we are going to try it here. 11-20 million all in one fell swoop.

When UK dumps the Free Trade Communist nonsense of the EU, and elects those who view Britain First, only then will things improve

I think the British are way ahead of the Americans in realizing Free Trade/Open Borders is a failure. There are still way too many in the GOP in the US who will whine “isolationism and protectionism” if you address issues like Free Trade, Open Borders, and Unchecked Immigration (all 3 issues are inter-twined)
