Carson Willing to Step Down as Commencement Speaker After Protests

29 Mar 2013 Greg Richter.

A pediatric neurosurgeon who has become the darling of conservatives since speaking against nationalized healthcare is now under fire for comments he made about same-sex marriage.

Dr. Benjamin Carson told “Andrea Mitchell Reports” on Friday that he would be willing to step down as commencement speaker at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine after faculty and students signed petitions asking that he not speak.

“I would say this is their day, and the last thing I would want to do is rain on their parade,” Carson told Mitchell.

Carson said in interview that he has not notified the university he won’t be speaking. “I am waiting for appropriate channels,” he said. “I don’t think television is the appropriate channel.”

The petitions began after Carson told Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity, “My thoughts are that marriage is between a man and a woman. It’s a well-established, fundamental pillar of society and no group, be they gays, be they NAMBLA, be they people who believe in bestiality — it doesn’t matter what they are — they don’t get to change the definition.”

One of the petitions, quoted by The Hill newspaper, reads: “We retain the highest respect for Dr. Carson’s achievements and value his right to publicly voice political views. Nevertheless, we feel that these expressed values are incongruous with the values of Johns Hopkins and deeply offensive to a large proportion of our student body.”

MSNBC’s web report on the story says Carson equating same-sex marriage with pedophilia and bestiality has caused him to lose some of his star power within the GOP. Carson has said he would consider a run for president if the public was still interested in him a year-and-a-half from now.

Yeah, but unlike the average German in the 1930s, we will NOT give up our guns. The 2nd Amendment has a purpose.

Please don’t give up, Dr. Carson. Right is right, no matter who says it, or where it is said.

To heck with the PC nut jobs.

I agree with you. It sure makes you wonder what marvelous medical advances (if any) are going to come out of this graduating class, eh?

After 4 years of indoctrination, these little jam-tarts could use at least 1/2 hour for an opposing view point.

That's the answer he should have given, rather than folding and apologizing.

If you are ill you better stay far away from that crowd. I would not trust them to treat my dog’s ass. messing around with them will cause you to go from sick to dead very quickly.

I doubt the young useful idiots have any idea of the overall Marxist goals. They’re just going along with the flow, completely ignorant of the fact that they’ve been totally brainwashed by government union goons, aka public school teachers.

I really hope you realize that the series, “The Bible”, thoroughly sidestepped the facts in their portrayal of Lot being rescued from Sodom and Gomorrah. In the interest of “getting it all in”, they have seriously under served strong cultural and religious principles God wanted the children of Israel to not only learn and know but to internalize and realize everything that happened was a type, an example, a foreshadowing and ever mounting promise that was fully and totally realized in the birth, life, death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. The reason people watch the series in droves, IMO, is that they know there will be no vulgarity or perversion celebrated, no profanity and limited discreet skin exposure, and their beliefs not ridiculed or made as the focus of condemnation by people who themselves are unworthy to even speak the name of God and only do so in vain and cursing.
God is not mocked. He will judge, not with water as he did the first time, but with a refining fire that will ultimately wipe evil from the face of the earth.

Exactly my point about them dragging us to the dark ages.

I vehemently disagree with Stephen Hawking on pretty much all social issues but I thank the God that he doesn't believe in for Hawking's existence. The man is truly brilliant and has advanced theoretical astrophysics and actual sciences in incalculable ways.

I refuse to be like the left.

Why would JH need a World class neurosurgeon, when they can have an expert fudge packer talk about fudge packing and how much they love each other?

MSNBC’s web report on the story says Carson equating same-sex marriage with pedophilia and bestiality has caused him to lose some of his star power within the GOP.

But he didn't equate them. He said no group, whoever they are, gets to change the definition of marriage. He's right. He could have said no liberal, no pope, no president gets to ...... That's not equating liberals with the pope and/or the president.

...students at UofM...

I believe you mean Johns Hopkins University (JHU), not the University of Maryland (UofM).

Ignorance is bliss.

The sheeple that repeat many nostrums supporting “same-sex marriage” - as though the issue is all about, and only about “how a couple feels towards each other” are totally ignorant of the legal language used by the activist lawyers and their supportive judges. The sheeple are ignorant of the fact that that legal language is tailor made to suit any “loving couple” (or more) who wants to claim the right to “marriage”. Carson is aware of that even if the sheelple are not.

They know that THEY are not supporting “gay marriage” with the intention of supporting marriage for any adult couple regardless of any conditions, and so they resent Carson connecting gay marriage righta to individuals and groups the sheeple think the issue is not about, or in favor of.

But, contrary to their ignorance, the legal language IS unable to be split off from “gay couples” to anyone else. Legal and judicial decisions based on the activist lawyers and judges legal language and arguments will establish precedents that the same courts will find rationally dificult to ignore that it suits almost anyone.

Ahhh, the activists say, legislatively we can deny all those others.

Really? So, merely legislatively we CAN define who gets to and does not get to “marry”.

Then its not a universal civil right applicable to any kind of couple, and therefore it cannot be a “civil right” for gays either.

No, he’s supposed to give a speech at University of Michigan in the next few weeks and they’re throwing a tantrum about it.
