HARTFORD -- Lawmakers and gun-control advocates anticipate the strongest laws in the nation to emerge Monday, when leaders of the General Assembly finally unveil their bipartisan response to the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.
After closed-door House and Senate caucuses review the secret list of gun-control, school-safety and mental-health legislation, top Democratic and Republican leaders will meet a final time, then announce what they will debate and vote on later in the week.
"We're hoping we can reach a conclusion," said Senate Minority Leader John McKinney, R-Fairfield, whose district includes Newtown. "We should have a comprehensive package that will be more encompassing than we've seen anywhere else."
"A lot of that depends on our respective caucuses," said House Minority Leader Lawrence F. Cafero Jr., R-Norwalk. "The goal was to set an example on how Democrats and Republicans could work together and the goal was always comprehensive. That's not to say exhaustive. In the future, we'll still be looking at ways to improve on issues of mental health and school safety."
Senate President Pro Tempore Donald E. Williams Jr., D-Brooklyn agreed that it could be the most comprehensive bill in the country.
"I'm looking forward to our caucus Monday," Williams said Friday. "It's been a lengthy negotiation, but fruitful. We've discussed every issue."
The House and Senate debates are scheduled for Wednesday.
At the start of the legislative session, leaders appointed a 52-member committee of lawmakers, with three subcommittees studying guns, school safety and mental health. Earlier this month, the subcommittees presented recommendations to House and Senate leaders for final bipartisan negotiations.

Such “comprehensive gun control legislation” always means that the public’s freedom and rights will take it in the xxx and sacrificed, not because of the public interest in general, but because of those elites who control the message and own the media and want average Americans disarmed.
It is the same propaganda routine that has been used by the same club to push open borders on Americans to change our culture.
My grandfather Thomas Holcombe immigrated to Massachusetts in 1630, and soon became one of the first settlers of Connecticut at Windsor, where every able-bodied man was expected to be an armed, trained member of the militia. He quickly moved northwest and helped pioneer Poquonock. There were hostiles all around. I don’t have to wonder what he would think of this insanity.

My ancestors settled in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Maine in the early 1600’s as well. (My 9th great-grandmother, Mary Towne Esty, was one of the accused “witches” hanged in Salem.) Our trees very possibly connect back in New England at some point. It breaks my heart what has happened to the country our ancestors settled at great personal peril.

Until the other day when my wife and I uncovered the Thomas Holcombe line, and the line of Samuel Chapin, one of the founders of Springfield, MA, the man who is depicted in the famous “the Puritan” statue in Springfield, I had discovered no New England connections whatsoever. Most of my lines ran through Tidewater Virginia, all the way back to the earliest days of Jamestown.
A few months back we had discovered that I am a direct descendant of Robert Chandler, who served throughout the Revolution in the Connecticut Second, and spent the entire winter at Valley Forge. Which has led us to all the CT discoveries.
Amazing stuff. This sort of study gives one a whole new appreciation for what it is we are in danger of losing for our posterity.
By the way, if there is a family connection between us, or with any of those involved in the witch trials, the ironies will abound, because one of my earliest family connections in Jamestown is to John and Alice Proctor. No relation to the NE Proctors that I’m aware of, but...

To say it is outrageous that the media is not putting any pressure on Connecticut to release this report is an understatement. This should make us believe that it will provide substantiation that he was on anti-psychotic drugs and that the drugs themselves are dangerous. This case was a setup that the media and their liberal (Muslim? Irish?) friends wanted and waited for, so as to push gun control.
The virulent gun control lobby which owns the media doesn’t want their momentum slowed with facts. Neither does the pharmaceutical lobby. Their targets are taking guns, not presenting facts.
But, as John Adams said, "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." Sadly, we are rapidly becoming the "other" of which he spoke.
When I get some time, I may freepmail a list of some of my New England ancestral surnames from my tree and my husband's. (He is descended from the Mayflower's John Alden.) Could be a connection somewhere. Never know.
