Former Georgia Rep. Bob Barr, an outspoken conservative who lost his seat more than a decade ago, thinks the time is right for a new run at political office. He announced a campaign for the congressional seat being vacated by Rep. Phil Gingrey, who’s running for Senate.

Roll Call reports that Mr. Barr has already established a campaign team and has reached out to Capitol Hill politicians — including House leadership — for support.

This is from Wikipedia, so take it with a grain of salt. But if this is the worst liberals have to say about him, sounds like Broun is a pretty good guy, and probably represents the majority view of his constituents in a state like Georgia.

From Wikipedia: “Even without an opponent, Broun’s reelection came with controversy. A leaked video of a speech given at Liberty Baptist Church Sportsman's Banquet on September 27, shows Broun telling supporters that, “All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and the Big Bang Theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of Hell.” In addition, Broun also believes that the world is less than 9000 years old and was created in six literal days. In response to these remarks, coupled with Broun being on the House Science Committee, libertarian radio talk show host Neil Boortz spearheaded a campaign to run the English naturalist and evolutionary theorist Charles Darwin against Broun, with the intention of drawing attention to these comments from the scientific community and having Broun removed from his post on the House Science Committee.”

I don't have any problem with a conservative Roman Catholic district electing a traditional Catholic, with a conservative Jewish district electing an Orthodox Jew, with a conservative Mormon district electing a temple-recommend Mormon, or a conservative Baptist district electing a conservative Baptist. Now why would a liberal have a problem with democracy and the right of religious minorities to elect someone who reflects their views?

Oh, that's right... the only religious minorities that liberals like are those which are anti-Christian.

Our local gun shop sponsored his announcement.

I wish I knew why. He's totally unreliable.

Maybe because Narrs an NRA board member and staunch defender of the Second Amendment. He’s been doing a lot of work recently to torpedo the UN’s anti-gun treaty.

About the ONLY thing Congressman Bob Barr c. 1998 and Libertarian Presidential candidate Bob Barr c. 2008 had in common was both of them were pro-2nd amendment. On everything else, Barr flip-flopped 180 degrees. Not only did he take the exact opposite position, he actually worked to actively UNDO all the legislation HE had written and sponsored in Congress! No wonder he endorsed Romney in 2012 after pretending to be Ron Paul’s BFF in 2008. Barr could certainly identify with Romney’s constant flip-flops. Who knows what positions Barr will take now that he’s a “Republican” again and courting social conservatives in Georgia? I don’t trust this sellout any more than I could throw him.

Bob Barr has more positions than a porn star.

That's not a good thing.

Nice update on the opportunistic flit, Rep. Barr. I'm sending a link on this thread to my Georgia list with your post marked. Many thanks.

But he's completely changed on every other issue.

What's to say he won't change on this one, too?
