Yes, he is the heir. If he becomes King, there will be some issue with the appropriate title for his wife, but it will likely be sorted out with civility. There’s no indication that Camilla is the monster the tabloids paint.

No one has to plot to prevent William from ”stepping up to the throne”. The law of succession is not a popularity contest; it mandates that the eldest son of the monarch inherits the throne. William will ”step up to the throne” after his grandmother and his father die.
