Dear Moderators and FR Friends,

That does it.

I’m cannot complain about this topic — I know that a pulse is a real danger. And chemicalman, please don’t take what I’m going to say as a criticism of your starting this thread. Thank you for posting this.

I am so tired of the constant, incessant, panic-driven, Search-Engine-Optimized headlines coming out of WND that I am asking for an outright ban of anything coming from that publication.

We need focused discussion on some very serious issues. In my opinion, we do not need to have the shouts of a deranged, market-driven, headline-mongering, irrelevant publication that time and time again tries to sew panic and fear. They are making conservatives look like fringe lunatics. I believe the days when WND was of benefit have passed and now they are only trying to gain web hits.

I would ask the Moderators to consider making this an FR policy, or perhaps to poll the community if this would be a good course of action.

Again, chemicalman, please don’t take this as a criticism of you. I read the headline and immediately jumped. I am weary of having our emotions played on, and I think I have had enough of WorldNetDaily.

Thank you, Moderators, for your consideration. And bless you, regardless of your decision.

I think you’re way out of line in making such demands.. If you don’t like the source of an article don’t click on the link to read it. Or is that too much to ask of you? Stop acting like a whiny little prima donna.

Maybe this article serves only as a reminder. The issue may not be this particular instance or source, but the fact that an EMP attack by anyone is moderately plausible (technically and politically) and highly catastrophic (90% mortality rate, the end of Western influence and way of life).

And, although not easy, for a fraction of the multi-year $timulu$e$, by hardening our electrical grid, this extremely high risk would be mitigated.

Dear Pastor Brooks,

I feel your pain, but believe your complaint is reflective of a much, much larger issue.

... the constant, incessant, panic-driven, Search-Engine-Optimized headlines coming out of...

the media. There isn't a day that goes by lately that even Rush Limbaugh gets turned off at times for plying the propaganda of the regime. I believe many Americans are like you and to a degree like me, we are tired of hearing about the latest catastrophic politcal headline daily.

The news overall has become a stuck pig squeelfest.

I couldn’t agree with you more. They and their headlines especially aren’t very credible.

I agree. While EMP is a real concern in general, I'm fairly convinced that the claim there is a specific current concern from a North Korean EMP in the administration (used for the WND headline, but barely supported in the article) is a deliberate fabrication designed to generate WND hits and ad revenue, much like the Iran Fordow nuclear site explosion claims that WND stuck to for weeks (and which, I can assure you, are completely false.) Actually, the headlines now look like they are designed to get stupid, gullible FReepers to post them to breaking news to generate hits and ad revenue for Wing Nut Daily.

As an additional note, the article contains additional embarassing errors indicating the author is incompetent and hasn't the foggiest idea what they are talking about:

In response to North Korea’s initial bellicose rhetoric, Hagel ordered the deployment of additional Aegis anti-missile systems for the U.S. West Coast. They originally were destined for Europe. And a second anti-ballistic missile radar is to be installed in Japan. However, the Aegis anti-missile systems won’t be operational until 2017, although there are some systems already deployed along the West Coast.

1) Hagel didn't order the additional deployment of Aegis systems, ANYWHERE. He ordered the deployment of additional Ground-Based Interceptors (GBIs), a completely different, much larger missile, in Alaska. And these systems weren't "destined for Europe."

2) Alaska isn't the "West Coast."

4) While there are some ships with Aegis BMD BASED on the West Coast, they aren't deployed there on BMD missions.

5) They aren't deployed there on BMD missions because they would be worthless. Current Aegis BMD can only intercept short and medium-short range missiles. They can help defend Japan against a North Korean attack, but they have no capability to defend the US against a North Korean attack and can't intercept ICBMs, or any sort of fractional orbital bombardment system (the shoot-down of our own satellite was a one-off unique case that couldn't be repeated operationally). And based on what Hagel CANCELED, Aegis will likely never have ICBM intercept capability.

At least, please take this out of "Breaking." The article is riddled with errors and you have to admit there's a pattern of WND just making stuff up. Though at times it's hard to tell WND lying from WND incompetence.

Expressing your distrust of WND’s credibility or motives is one thing.

Suggesting that 1st ammendment rights be denied is another.

#22 - Inclined to agree. My first action was to verify the article via multiple sources. Found several, but they all used WND as the original source. If we are going to continue to build the credibility of the “new media” we’re going to need to do better than this, it’s about as convincing as network news.
