Democrats push bill in Congress to require gun insurance under penalty of fine

A New York Democratic lawmaker is behind a national push that would force gun owners to buy liability insurance or face a $10,000 fine.

The Firearm Risk Protection Act, pushed by Rep. Carolyn Maloney and seven co-sponsors, follows efforts at the state level to create the controversial new kind of insurance for gun owners.

"For too long, gun victims and society at large have borne the brunt of the costs of gun violence," Maloney said in a written statement. "My bill would change that by shifting some of that cost back onto those who own the weapons."

Sure, just as long as the equivalent fee is charged for voting.

There is a similar bill in MA that made it out of committee recently.

I have written to everyone I can think of on this horrible and discriminatory idea.

In this state, if passed, it could cost law-abiding gun owners thousands of dollars for this insurance. I will not comply.

I pray that the people will remember this when the 2014 elections come around.

“Gun Insurance” is not only an affront to law-abiding citizens, but it’s a bloody back-door registration scheme.

DemonRATS do NOT support the 2nd Amendment, never have since Reconstruction Days.

RINOs don’t support the 2nd Amendment, either.

One notes that every punitive firearm-related law proposed will impose a burden on peaceful, law-abiding, citizens while having no effect on the criminal class.

Uh Huh...THEN the fed will go into the ‘gun ins.’ business, right!?

Wall-to-wall Obamacare accross the board. I want to throw up!

These people have learned nothing.

It’s gotta be a ‘tax’. That way Roberts will vote to uphold it when the lawsuit reaches the Supreme Court.

Sigh.

I don't REALLY know but, I think I recall something about most or all states have some sort of 'victim's fund'.

If I DO recall correctly, this additional 'fund' would be double dipping for the gunshot victim or victim's family while adding an (unecesary) burden onto the gun owner.

Just thinkin' out load and probably have my facts a little screwed up.

Name an insurance company which would actually sell the policies.

Name an insurance company which would actually sell the policies.

Even if there was a company willing to sell insurance, the Dems, by driving the company out of business, would then have an effective gun ban.

Backdoor effort to reduce the number of gun owners.

Ironic, too.

Millions of Americans purchase or drive cars without insurance, many of them illegal aliens.

They inflict billions of dollars of property damage and kill or permanently disable thousands of people.

The Democrats response.....

Yawn.

I’ll set one up. With 150 million guns in the US, and the tiny number that are used in crime that would be owned by people that actually bought insurance, whoever sells it will be filthy rich....

The criminals will get the insurance charge dropped because it will discriminate against Blacks just like Bartley-Fox was.

As a lifelong runner, I also want insurance on kids with racing bikes.

As I tell my family.....

“If I don’t come home one day, it will not be a heart attack. It’ll be some kid on a bike who slammed me into oncoming traffic.”

Probably a plan behind this one to have "single-payer".
