Fort Bend County is the most ethnically diverse county in the United States.
And according to the 2010 federal census, it comes closer than any other U.S. county to having an equal distribution of the nation's four major ethnic groups.
In 2010, Fort Bend County was 19 percent Asian, 24 percent Latino, 21 percent African-American and 36 percent Anglo.

I read somewhere that more birth services are provided to illegal immigrants by Houston’s public hospitals than anywhere else in the country.
Who knew there were enough people of British Isles ancestry that Anglos could be such a major component of Houston.
Now, if we could only get Houston to keep their garbage within their city limits.....

You cannot turn on the local news without hearing about a crime committed in Fort Bend Co.
Pardon me for being pedantic, but-”Hispanic/Latino” is an ethnic group, not a race, so-Hispanics/Latinos can be Caucasian, Black or Asian, or like most Humans, a mixture of all the above, depending on where your ancestors came from-mine came from Spain, so I’m not an “Anglo”.
The term “Anglo” is just a term used to describe Caucasians of non-Hispanic/Latino ancestry in Texas-doesn’t mean their ancestors came from the British Isles, just that most of their ancestors weren’t from the Spanish areas of the Old World/Europe.
Anglo is not used as a pejorative here-I’ve heard that it is in California, though.

Anglo is not the preferred term in this country ~ maybe among the Texicans, but not everybody else. All too often Galicians and Spanish noble families are referred to as ‘anglo’ when they are the REAL hispanics ~ and all these other people are indios!
That is an interesting difference in terminology-Hispanics in the New World are actually a mix of ethnic groups-anyone whose ancestors came here prior to the 1800’s-and that is most of us in the border states, Mexico, etc-are a mix of Spanish and Native Americans. Many of those from the Carribean islands and some parts of South America are Spanish, Indian and Black.
Most of us from very old families-mine has been in what is now Texas for about 250 years-are mixed with Germans, Prussians and some Irish-anglos-who came here in the early 1800’s-the Mexicans called the whole mixed breed lot of our ancestors Texicans, and the name stuck, especially after those Texicans kicked Santa Ana’s ass. We’re all pretty much mutts here...
What we now know of the repeopleing of Europe AFTER the glacial advance disappeared has kicked the term right in the head as far as identifying etnicity.
There were several major refugia in Europe up to the withdrawal of the glaciers. One in Spain and France; another in roughly Serbia/Montenegro. There was a Middle Eastern area populated by people whose descendants can still be found throughout Europe ~ (by looking at the DNA).
About 20,000 years ago, while the ice was still disappearing, one group left the Western European refugia and showed up in North America, Western Siberia, Northern Scandinavia and North Africa.
That group are not now nor were they ever 'Caucasion' ~ in fact, all the groups descended from those in the Western refugia were never 'Caucasion' ~ and currently that's a major chunk of the white folks on the planet.
At the same time just about everyone in Europe speaks at least one Caucasian language (In the IndoEuropean group). Two popular languages from that group are English and Spanish. If language is to be the guide to how we identify ethnicity, and you want to call white folks 'Anglos', you need to call Spanish speaking people by the same term, that is 'Anglos'.
That's just one of the reasons for why 'Anglo' has not become accepted in the country as a whole to identify anybody.
To further compound the difficulty of using Texican terms if you look up "latina" on Google.com, about the first 1000 pictures are going to lead you to the 'hot babes' from Latina magazine ~ and whether they're 'wise', or 'hot' ~ who cares!

Considering what we are learning almost daily about the ability of Humans to travel where they wanted to by boat from the gitgo, I suppose the only reason we even use terms for ethnic groups and races is because they have become familiar-it seems pretty clear to me that none of us have come from a “pure” race for countless millennia, just because we were always curious creatures who wanted to live in an easier place, and like to trade stuff and relatives.
My cousin’s husband espoused the theory that there was at least one influx of people from someplace in Europe to what is now the Americas before-long before-the Asian people most Natives claim as ancestors came over the Bering land bridge. He and the other archaeologists who said that were called crazy by the mainstream. Not any more-it appears that the Solutreans came here from Europe 20,000+ years ago-they were definately not Asians, so the Native American tribes who claim to be descended from the Bering land bridgers are still in an uproar because it means they were not here first. Ridiculous, not to mention racially intolerant...
I picked up a Latina magazine some few years ago while waiting in the checkout line at the grocery store-with scads of ads promoting beauty, and articles about “sex and the single mami”, etc I did not find it empowering for myself or any other female Hispanic/latina. Just another fashion mag masqerading as relevant, while objectifying women. Sort of proves what you said about it.
