Back during its heyday, Fort Knox was the third largest city in Kentucky. I lived on post from 1959-1967 in Pritchard Place. Right across the street from the Gold Vault. Even remember some of the filming of Goldfinger. Then in 1967 it was my turn to wear the green fatigues. Many good memories. Taho, Tobacco Leaf Lake, Fort Knox High School, and Ireland Army Hospital. Won’t say why I remember the hospital. And, of course, basic training.
Lived in Van Voorhis.
Memories here, too. Yano and Mendick Ranges, Otter Creek Park, the Museum.
I was there for Armor Officer Basic in ‘77-78. Did 26 days of TDY later with the 2/6 Cav. And was back again for Armor Officer Advanced Course in ‘83.
The Armor School Chapel burned to the ground and oddly a chapel at Fort Benning also burned to the ground when I was here (it wasn’t me...they can’t prove anything).
At Knox I stayed at Cromwell? BOQ and spent lots of time at Southwind Motel too in Radcliffe.
