LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas legislators passed a law Monday requiring voters to show photo identification at the polls, overriding Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe's veto of the bill, which he called an expensive solution to a non-existent problem.

The Republican-led state House voted 52-45, largely along party lines, to complete an override that started in the GOP-controlled Senate on a 21-12 vote last week. Only a simple majority was needed in each chamber.

"We are trying to protect the integrity of one of the most fundamental rights we have here in America," said state Rep. Stephen Meeks, a Republican from Greenbrier and the bill's House sponsor. House Speaker Davy Carter, a Cabot Republican who did not vote for the bill when it passed the House last month, supported the override.

The governor, who last week called the bill "an expensive solution in search of a problem," told reporters earlier Monday he had talked with some lawmakers to explain his veto, but had not urged them to vote against an override.

"The governor...last week called the bill "an expensive solution in search of a problem"...

Common sense says the bill is a solution to the problem (at least in AR ) of massive voter fraud that twice weaseled Usurper Obama into the White House.

It's a start, have other states been successful in doing the same?

Yes, just last week Virginia now has a strict Photo Voter ID, pending Justice Department requirement.

South Carolina, as of January 1, has a voter ID.

Those in the Northern part of the state HAD to show ID but the rest of the state didn’t. Now we are all equal.

Racist democrats and go along to get along GOPe types will sue and a bought and paid for liberal judge will throw it out.

The rule of law and the will of the people are pretty much null and void if a judge is able to do this.

It's like that in Calif who voted years ago to stop illegal insurgent alien criminal invading colonists from getting free schooling and medical treatment and making them ineligible for food stamps and welfare.

One judge overturned the law, saying it was unconstitutional.

The irony is that overturning the will of the people is what IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL!

The spineless GOP in Calif let the leftists and the ACLU get away with this.

One of the local talk show types (Chris Plante WMAL AM) has been setting up his Lib callers with “Do you believe someone should show a picture ID to buy a firearm”.
To a man they all yell “YES”.

“Well you must be racist at the least and definitely want to hold the minorities down”
“How dare you say that?”
“That is what you call us when ‘we’ suggest a picture ID to vote”

I believe that's nationwide.

Some people commit crimes, so government is entitled to punish everyone. It worked for Stalin, didn't it?
