WILLIAMSON, W.Va. (AP) - State police say the man suspected of gunning down a West Virginia sheriff pulled a weapon on a deputy who shot him.
Authorities didn't reveal the condition of the suspect, 37-year-old Tennis Melvin Maynard. West Virginia State Police Capt. David Nelson said Maynard was taken to a local hospital, where he remained Wednesday evening.
Nelson said Maynard crashed into a bridge, held up a gun as he got out of the vehicle and was shot.

1st off, prayers to the sheriffs family. Maybe he was one of the good ones.
2nd. My give a damn is past broke and headed to busted. I would like to know why it is so tragic when a law enforcement officer is killed and when a civilian is killed it is no big deal.
3rd. When you push too hard, sometime people will push back. I just wish that the folks who enforce our laws would consider my Constitutional rights before they decide to arrest me. I know that’s a radical concept. But, “let the judge sort it out” is not ok with me. So, sue me...
4th. My Sheriff, or my sheriff when I was pretty young, was the first and maybe only Sheriff ever to be Impeached in the entire U.S. Yea that’s right. And we put up with graft and corruption for years. So, don’t tell me that I don’t know what I’m talking about.
5th. Our, until about 2 weeks ago Sheriff, was a drunk and a drug addict. Served for over 30 years. In and out of rehab but you never heard a thing from the pols. Screw ‘em and him. He’s not long for this world and it will be no big loss.
So, as someone once said, “Son, you can’t handle the truth”.
Any of these law enforcement folks among the ones speaking ill of dear leader’s gun control plans?

Regarding #2: Because they work for the government and are thus our betters, deserving of higher pay, pensions and benefits paid by the rest of us for life; why their lives are naturally more valuable than those of the mere peons who make their lifestyles possible (and for very little tangible benefit in return, I might add). They have become, in the main, golden sinecures...at least until we officially go Greek. Then the roles will be purged.
Right or wrong here goes the truth again. Just made “the third highest number” of non-gun owners in the history of Mingo County. For better or worse. I'm about 75% sure that there were no innocent folks caught up in that little Zero Tolerance policy. Or, none that plead guilty just to save money. Or didn't have money to get an attorney, or just to get it over with or to stay out of jail by taking a plea. Make that about 30% sure. Like I said. Pushback. It's a bitch. But it's a necessary risk when you and you're family's future is tied to getting re-elected year after year. And your salary is tied to keeping the Sheeple satisfied that you are "tough on crime" and, of course, you gotta qualify for that pension...Oh well..Course I didn't know him and I don't know what goes on in Mingo county. I can only use my own experience in my own county. Good thing about this whole thing, and there is always an silver lining right? Is that his family will be taken care of monetarily. That I can guarantee.

From all accounts he was a good sheriff. Busting drugs left and right. This really blows if you ask me.
Yes it is bad. Now all the sheriffs will be afraid to crack down on the drug business. Not to mention a family left without a husband and father. These days it’s going to get harder for law enforcement to go after the criminals. I can see vigilantes forming to take care of the problem. Usually the people around the druggies know about them but are afraid to report them. In small towns now drugs are rampant. We have them here.
